Anyone else get incredibly /cozy/ with this game? With the overhaul mod and a few graphics updates, it still holds up as a decent RPG to this day, and I chill out with it all the time.
>>
I never played it with any mods but the last time I played it was in 2012 maybe, on the X Box 360.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpJEg6MTPzc

I love the soundtrack.

While Skyrim is a great game and also can be comfy, Oblivion was the comfiest because of all the green land and chill music, Skyrim happened to be a little harsher and lacked that overall comfiness.

As of four days, Oblivion is 10 years old

I feel nostalgic for playing a game I didn't even beat
>>
>learn about oblivion in 2008, borrow it from a friend
>never played elder scrolls before
>fall in love with the game
>end up getting it myself
>friend ends up dying in car crash

so many feels
>>
>>27367115
With Frostfall, realistic needs and diseases and a good enb Skyrim is the most comfy game ever
>>
>>27367176
>>27367217
I hate the Oblivion soundtrack. I don't know why, but I find it viscerally disgusting.
>>
>>27367235
i'm gritting my teeth fighting the urge to call you a pleb but i respect your opinion
>>
>>27367115

Oblivion helps against my insomnia, I play it every night before bed on my 360. It's like a bed time story.

Anyone who says skyrim is comfy is a fucking retard as skyrim is a fucking action game, not a comfy rpg
>>
>>27367228
I literally spent hundreds of hours of my life with a heavily modded Skyrim just exploring, never finishing the main quest line.
>>
I would really love for both Oblivion and Skyrim to get a HD release on the current gen consoles.

>>27367227
That sucks anon, I bet Oblivion is very close to your heart. Think of it this way, you friends spirit lives on in both your heart and Cyrodiil,

>>27367258
It's pretty comfy anon. Oblivion was exactly the same as Skyrim, just replace dragons with oblivion portals.

Example of Skyrim being comfy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KdHte8Wnrk

>>27367264
I loved that about Skyrim.
>>
>>27367355
If you haven't already you should download some customizable armor mods for Skyrim that alter the leveled list, nothing like walking around with troll skull helmet, mismatching pauldrons, greaves, a nap sack, and an assortment of other small accessories that make your character feel like your own.
>>
>>27367390
I don't have a PC or laptop that could run uber graphics games, I'm a console gamer anyway.
>>
>>27367115
oblivion is my favourite game ever hands down. skrim's fucked.
>>
>>27367413
I don't get this Skyrim hate, they're virtually similar games except for one is newer and received universal acclaim.

Let me explain what happens. People felt the same about Oblivion as they did about Skyrim for a while, Morrowind was the best game ever and Oblivion wasn't that popular, then Skyrim come out and received the baton of hate instead of Oblivion and now of course, Oblivion went off the radar and everyone talked about Skyrim, now Oblivion is older and almost vintage it can allowed to be hip now.
That's how these things always work.
>>
>>27367115

Oblivion is by far the comfiest game I have ever played. I played it on my computer as a kid ever since it came out. I never finished the main quest because I always got sidetracked by the world around me. As I grew older I found out about mods, but it wasn't the graphical mods that got me hooked on modding the game, it was the female enhancing mods. Imagine playing Oblivion like you always do, except that all the females in the game look like goddesses with G cup breasts that bounce every time they make a step. Oh, and they don't walk like brutes, I installed a mod that makes them walk sensually. Their skin reflects light from all the olive oil they got spilled on their skin when they got out of bed in the morning and the "armor" they wear is just a bikini made from steel. In other words, you can't play the game for more than a few seconds and keep your concentration.

Also Skyrim is for pleb scum.

What the fuck did you just fucking say? Skyrim is a dumbed down version of the previous games. The whole idea behind that game is to appeal to the kiddies with graphics and dragons.
>>
>>27367115
can you list/link any good mods? I wanna get back into oblivion again but I feel like it's aged poorly

And let us not forget how Skyrim broke the lore of the series by bringing in their shitty dragons that were supposed to be extinct for a while now. At least the normalfags got their flashy dragons. Compare the plot of the main quests from Oblivion and Morrowind to the one from Skyrim and you will see how poorly thought out that game is.
>>
>>27367562

Dem Waifus has a good list to start off from. Oblivion Reloaded and QTP will take care of your graphics.
>>
>>27367545
>>27367584
You do realize that when Oblivion came out, basically all the Morrowind fans hated it, thought it was dumbed down, ruined the lore, had a terrible story, etc.

They were right, by the way. Oblivion is FAR closer to Skyrim than Morrowind.
>>
>>27367562
Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul makes it so the leveled lists of enemies and loot are for the most part replaced with a set world that you explore, and leveling up makes you stronger, and the world very slightly increases with you. I'm playing through the game again with it for the first time, and it feels like I'm a fucking adventurer, not a person playing a video game.
>>
fuuuuuck this game is 10 years old
i'm 21 and i was 11 when i played this

>>27367176
this music brings tears to my eyes

i remember looking at this promo shit in the months leading up to release because i was a huge morrowind fan and i thought it looked 'realer than real life'
>>
>>27367545
Every single complaint in that image is a complaint that could be and has been made about Oblivion.

>>27367584
I agree that Skyrim's quest design was awful and lazy compared to Oblivion.
>>
The only thing Oblivion has over Skyrim is over all superior and more varied quests. Of course quests are big part which is why oblivion is nice.

I think it's also a nice sweetspot between morrowind which has annoying frustrating gameplay and skyrim which is simply easy and boring unless you throw mods at it.
>>
Wish you could join the guard of a particular hold in Skyrim

I just want to role play man
>>
There is absolutely no disputing that this is the comfiest game of all time. Nothing else even comes close. The music, art direction, gameplay and even the shitty voice acting just make it the most pleasant experience possible.

Good luck. You might have some trouble with Oblivion character overhaul 2, but there are probably loads of youtube tutorials for it
>>
Despite being a noticeable step down from Morrowind in immersion, Oblivion was still pretty enjoyable.

Skyrim, on the other hand, is only enjoyable if you skip all the quests and just run around killing things and doing whatever. The story/quests in Skyrim lacks everything that made Morrowind such a magnificent game. It's lost all its vigor.

Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion were great.

Was thinking of picking it up recently. I got all the achievements on the 360 when it first came out. When shivering isles came around I played the fuck out of it even more. When you spend a lot of time in it after the fact it feels eerily silent and unmoving.

The last time I played it in 2011 or so (right before skyrim) I sat my very first character down in his shack at the imperial city waterfront with his imperial dragon armor in a chest and signed out.

Can't believe it's been a decade.
>>
>>27368316
use LOOT
>>
>>27368449
also, fun anecdote, the imperial palace guard armour can be obtained on the xbox 360 version through a thieve's guild exploit. on the PC you can easily go to the armour room or spawn it in, with the 360 I found a really old gamefaqs post or something, following some steps from game start on how to get it and equip it. I only did it once but as hard as I've tried I can't find the guide anymore.

really strange to think something so unique and forgotten exists out there somewhere.
>>
>>27368139

I have a muslim friend who's obsessed with oblivion. I must say i liked it too. But i dislike games that require hours of lurking info mod forums to find the best mods.
Now if someone spoonfed me and gave me a Nice modding list i'd play this game again.
>>
>>27368544
I have never used mods to play it. Playing it now I can see why you would need them, it hasn't aged the best. I just never had a good pc to run it at the time, so I always played it vanilla. Nostalgia goggles are strong for sure.
>>
>>27368566
I player vanilla when i was young, now i wanna try the mods. New locations and shit. Also the original magic system is bad. You go oom after 2 spells.
>>

In all honesty whenever I see Churches in the UK they look so derelict and old as if nobody ever visits them, guess that's what happens when everyone becomes secular and Atheist because it's "cool".

What are you talking about everyone hates skyrim because it's "normie-tier"
>>
>>27370660

So is Oblivion. I remember back when it came out, all the normies were playing it.
>>
>>27370567
I came to it late, you can download an easy setup install exe free from here:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files

Set it on full game speed in character creation, mouse look and change the key bindings and it plays just like the later games.

I have not completed the main quest but dungeon crawling in it is like a drug, you can sink months into it.
>>
>>27370718
This.

However Oblivion came out in like 2006 or something, which means the average poster on r9k was probably 10 years old the time and wouldn't be aware of that.

>>27370660
I know normies at work who liked Oblivion, sorr to break it to you but Oblivion was a very popular game just like Skyrim, the only reason Skyrim was so popular is because people remember how good Oblivion was and got really hyped for its release.
>>
>>27369803
>But this seems to be an unpopular opinion and I don't know why

Such a special snowflake lol, so unique.
See >>27367457
People are beginning to consider Oblivion the same way people thought of Morrowind when Oblivion was around, the same thing will most likely happen to Skyrim 10 years after its release and a release of a new Elder Scrolls game to take the baton of hate.
People like to hate popular things and they like to like things which are old and forgotten such as >>27370492 because it makes them feel like they are privy to something different, basically people like to be contrarian for the sake of it.
>>
>>27370766

Ask the average Skyrimfag if he played Oblivion before he did Skyrim. It's almost always a negative answer.

>>
>>27370826

In your experience maybe. People in their mid to late 20 or older are more likely to have played Oblivion first, whereas anyone younger is likely to have missed out because they were so young when the game was released. I get that Skyrim is more accessible, but it doesn't take away from the fact that Oblivion was still pretty damn accessible too, and popular among normies and non-normies alike. Not like it really matters anyway, though.
>>
>>27371432

Oh! Oh! and to add to this, I remember when Oblivion was at the height of its popularity, people were saying the same thing that they are now about Skyrim. Oblivion was too accessible and Morrowind was superior, and most people who liked Oblivion never played Morrowind. Blah blah blah.

I can guarantee it will be the same with the next TES game.
