Don't get your hopes up, the rebuilds are nice to watch but not nearly as introspective and complex as the original series+ EoE. I'm not saying every movie and seried should be a mindfuck like EoE, I love moe slice of life animu, but knowing what came before the rebuilds, it's hard not to be frustrated by the superficiality.

Because of the rebuilds most likely, they are much more accessible than the original series. I doubt it would have the same number of fans if it just stuck to the 1995-97 content. It's like if Lain had a movie follow up.
