Yes, OP do this. My grandpa would lose a dog or two while hunting every year and this is how he always found them. Leave a shirt you've been wearing all day where you last saw the cat, along with some food and water.

I won't stop looking for my cat. His name is cloudy (I named him that because of spots on his stomach) and he was my first pet.
I think ill try the shirt idea that an anon said earlier. Ive been doing searches everyday day and night.
This also isn't the first time he's run away. Once he left the house for three days, that had me sick to my stomach.

You don't deserve a cat, I hope he comes back safely but never let him go after. I once fed an outdoor cat for months and he vanished, figured he was eaten by the coyotes but I saw him in a cat shelter a couple weeks later.

when I had to move back with my parents, who are allergic to cats, I had to put my cats out in the garage and one got out. he was gone for a month. I was worried sick. I thought he was surely dead.
he showed up later. he's probably out exploring the world. put food out every night, spend time calling his name around the same time every night when you put the food out and shake the food bag, and he'll come back.
When a cat know that he is dying, the cat normally hides in a difficult place to find outside his home, to die alone and in peace.
