Day trading is basically a gamble. There are some who are lucky and do well, there are others who do poorly. For the layman, long term holding of stock has shown a clear sign of higher rate of return than any short term possible gain(which is offset by the short term possible loss.)

That isn't to say that it's completely hopeless, but there is no way of timing the market or anything like that. Not by humans anyway.
