Azumanga Daioh isnt really an entry level anime. Hell, I wouldn't recommend\ it unless you know an intermediate level of Japanese so you can appreciate a lot of the puns and cultural things.
Try Neon Genesis Evangelion instead.

Azumanga Daioh isn't one of your silly children's moving picture stories. It's not some dumb narrative that you swallow up, shit out, and forget about. It's not a piece of trivial entertainment like Evangelion.

Like Angkor Wat, like St Peter's Basilica, like the Taj Mahal, it reflects a divine perfection which transcends any explanation. It speaks to the very hearts of men, a vision of unattainable beauty. It is the way things should be, the world you want to live in, a symbol of all that human civilization has strove in vain to achieve. Through the modern medium of comics and animation, mankind's ancient quest was continued in Azumanga Daioh as well as in Yotsuba&.
Few works can compare. Other SoL animes may surpass it in comedy (Nichibros), in animation (Nichijou), in appealing to certain audiences (Watamote and Lucky Star), or perhaps by tempting the uncultured hordes with the latest 'waifu'. However, none can compare with the works of Azuma in truly bringing that sublime vision of perfection to life.
The Moomins has a similar sublime attribute.

I really didn't get the appeal of fucking Naruto in high school, but many were into that awful shitty show in the early 00s. Dragon Ball Z isn't great, but man, it was at least watchable.

Actually just finished it tonight, I liked it desu and this is probably the 3rd anime I've watched
I kinda just grew to like the characters and seeing them in the situations the show puts them in made me laugh. Isn't that what slice of life anime is supposed to be? Or are my opinions wrong

Way back in the early 2000's I bought the manga and later the omnibus and read it all the time for fun.
I just enjoyed it a lot. It was relaxing. The anime wasn't as good imo.

I really, really liked the anime when I first watched it, but after buying and reading the manga for it, I have to agree. The show was very meditative and slow, and it would often use up a bunch of time setting up the jokes. The manga, in comparison, is much quicker. Jokes are delivered rapidly with precise comedic timing, something that the anime sorely lacks.
