What's stopping other countries from surprise nuking us into ashes?

the knowledge that the world cant handle any more weeaboos

MAD:
Mutually
Assured
Destruction

How will the US retaliate when we're dead though. I don't think North Korea is going to avenge us.
>>
the nukes would be detected and shot down

then a war would start

I don't think you understand how any of this works.
>>
>>27319614
Probably because the US knows automatically when a nuke is coming for it. The US would respond by shooting all their nukes back.

You do realize even with modern day missile technology there is a large enough amount of time for a full retaliation before the missiles reach the other side of the globe right? They have people sitting in bunkers and shit over the country watching radars over enemy territory 24/7 with their hand right next to the doomsday telephone ready to make that call, heck even by some turn of events if no one recognizes that the enemy is attacking Russia and Usa have systems in place so even if all of the people on their respective continents died the other continent is still fucked, submarines will regularly surface to check for signals from the mainland bases regarding whether or not nucular war has happened if they get no response then they launch their 12 nucular missiles at the enemy same will happen with all submarines dispatched, I think they may even have the ability to take over the mainland missiles remotely and fire them, so yes MAD no one is fucking winning any nuclear war.
>>
>>27321097
>No one is winning
Your wrong the dead win
>>
>>27321217
Well I mean yeah I want it to happen so I can die in an awesome way
>>
>>27319614
well the US has THAAD units that can shoot down missiles

this will likely help with disarmament and non-proliferation
>>

An advanced system of missile defense.

Not to mention the people who work there, who are so good at math that they can go outside, eyeball where a stealth fighter is, and hit it with a missile somewhat reliably.

And mutually assured destruction doesn't even come close to what would happen. Ever play Fallout and get the MIRV? That exists in real life. It's about the size of a traffic cone, and is a bunch of laser-targetted nukes. Imagine getting your anus ruptured with seven Megatons of TNT and an unlivable environment for the next 50 years.

And our radar is no longer really "radar" and more like "Ladar", bounce light off of a target instead of sound, and you get the information back that much faster.

And the number of nukes it would take to obliterate a land mass the size of the U.S. would require a proportionally sized fleet of fighters or submarines, which would be easy to detect with modern technology. Doesn't matter how stealthy you are when there's a bunch of you.

And the risk is 100 percent. You are saying "Hey, global community, I start shit with nuclear weapons!" and then you might as well shoot yourself and save everybody a lot of trouble.
>>
It would be suicide.

The US would see the nukes coming and return the favor leaving both sides in complete ruin if the US doesn't shoot it down before it even gets anywhere.

The US is on top of the world for a reason, they have the biggest nuclear penis in the room.

Yeah get a memorial
something to the effect
Les we forget the brave souls of (whatever country here)
essentially immortalized as a victim the world always remembers you tears will always be shed for you
Of course this would only be a thing if anyone is left alive to build said memorials
or it could also be a great form of pain and suffering out of the country at the time of the attack only to become living relics from an entire country gone forever along with most of it's inhabitants
>>
>>27321097
This is all true. If you wanted to launch a surprise nuke attack on the soil of any nation whatsoever, the best tactic would be to simply smuggle it into the country and hide it within whatever major metropolitan area it was that you wanted to level. Probably just slowly assemble it within a basement, warehouse, abandoned subway, abandoned sewer, or some other place quiet and forgotten about and just wait till it's needed to detonate. Hell, encase the thing in concrete to hide it if you have to, hide it within a building foundation.

The only real hard part is coming by the fissile materials to begin with (actually refining them; uranium isn't really that hard to acquire...plutonium is, but after awhile, you can make that yourself). the rest just requires a little imagination.

You actually CAN make your own nuclear reactor in your own basement or garage. It has been done before. It's just extraordinarily unlikely that you can do so safely.

and how would you transport nuclear material without setting off radiation detectors? even with shielding it's detectable

bruh

Nuke silos have "dead hand" switches so they would all launch automatically at preprogrammed targets no matter who shoots first. The correct way to looking at nukes is that all of them are already aiming at selected cities, and are basically kept on a leash daily by both sides.

So you cannot "kill" silos by shooting first they basically all have lv20 thorns aura
>>
>>27321383
>own nuclear reactor
Yes, you can, it's just so small it can't go critical or fuse fucking anything.

You would need quite an operation to do it. And most countries see the U.S. as a chance to rake in tons of dough, not a demon to squash. And those that do see the U.S. as demons are too stupid to think up those kinds of operations.

Killing 2000 people is Ezpz. Even gang bangers can do that. Killing *everyone* requires expertise and long study.
>>
>>27321411
How often do you see police using geiger counters? Customs and Border Protection may use Radiation Portal Monitors, but how often in the past have people been able to evade them when sneaking into the country?

You don't have to bring it in by truck, either. Fly it in, bring it ashore, whatever.
>>
>>27321682
you can triangulate a position from miles away just by detecting gamma radiation
>>
>>27321445
Only Russia's have the Mertvaya Ruka system.

Airports.

You're talking about an organized covert operation, complete with experts, equipment, an electricity and water bill, etc.

The space to create a stable nuclear bomb is appreciable. How do you think we know that Iran is trying to make them? And there's a time-sensitive element to it to. You have shit decaying all over the place. It's not something you do in your backyard.

And don't say "but a company could be used as a cover". no, it couldn't, there's a very special agency called the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that will fuck you up if your books come up wrong. They have ZERO sense of humor, and you do not fuck with them.

Furthermore, for maximum destruction, you would want to detonate the explosive that will drive the fission very far above the ground.

Activate the fission at ground level, and it's just a very big dirty bomb. You don't blow up a city when you do that, you dig a hole.

So once again, we're in the air, getting fucked.
>>
>>27321792
Ah okay thought everyone does that
Then again the US would have to point missiles into a million directions so they probably need a more flexible approach
>>
Why nukes? Biological weapons are way better :^)

Nukes are gay
>>
>>27321445
This was also what the 1984 Star Wars (now called Strategic Defense Initiative) was all about, the US was trying to find a way to stop all enemy nukes and some tin foilers think they have already made a system ready to stop all on coming missiles
>>
>>27321792
>>27321904
Actually the US has government people paid that there sole job is to be keeping nukes aimed and ready at all "current enemy" targets
Pretty much that briefcase button is just an overglorifed ready light that tells them to fire.
>>
>>27321337
>seven Megatons of TNT
No missile even has that big a payload with a single warhead. MIRV warheads are only a few hundred kt each because the inverse square law makes big payloads inefficient.

>bounce light off of a target instead of sound, and you get the information back that much faster.
What do you think radar use? EM waves still travel at the speed of light.

>require a proportionally sized fleet of fighters or submarines, which would be easy to detect with modern technology.
Not when a lot of nukes will be launched from the ground using TELs or can be launched close enough to your own shore.
>>
>>27321337
>and our radar is no longer really "radar" and more like "Ladar", bounce light off of a target instead of sound

yeah lidar is cool af
>>
>>27322172
A B83 is 1 Megaton. They can't fit in a MIRV, but whatever. I wanted to give him a sense of scale.

And he's talking about leveling a nation in one go. Not sure if TELs would be efficient enough or stealthy enough for that.
