oh wow, requiem for a dream, my fav movie. definitely 10/10. even tho i never took any drugs whatsoever. also trainspotting, kids, basketball diaries, machinist. would appreciate more suggestions similar to requiem for a dream - depression, nullness (?), routine, bad/fatal/tragic ending. preferably related with reality, no fantasy-tier elves

doesnt sound and look that appealing, but i will look in to it. also i remembered i have seen movie called "melancholia". i believe it was released in 2011. quite boring, especially in the beggining also had plot of apocalypsis (which is of course shit for me) but atleast in the middle of a movie a true melancholia character was shown, i was really impressed how well it depicted me.

Bad Lieutenant is definitely better than it looks: It's a lot like you are looking for. Depression, drug addiction, routine, inevitable failure, hopelessness, etc. It's very scummy and grimy.

Tokoyo Drifter.
It's about a young Yakuza who wants out.
First, he gets beaten up by a rival gang, to see if he really went straight, then his boss' and father figure's building is stolen, just because he decided to get out of the business.
After that his boss' second in command is executed. Tetsu decides to leave Tokyo and he travels around Japan, always getting dragged into shit, due to his Yakuza past.
It's amazing, really.
Easily as good as Branded to Kill, if not better.
