We actually used to be super duper far left here, to the point where a lot of the other parts of 4chan made fun of us for it. There was a lot of fedora tipping about atheism.
It was that way mainly because much of /r9k/ are very needy people who desperately want to be counter culture, but there are also people who are serious in their beliefs.

Because what is now considered the far right is actually slightly left, but because of how liberal the western world has become the slight left is not left enough. People end up getting demonized for not being left enough, which either drives them further away from liberal ideals OR sends them into leftist overload trying to appease the insane and vocal groups trying to undermine people that don't follow their set of values.
In the end, it's really people just trying to see who has the biggest bleeding heart gone wild. Everyone is unique, everyone is special, how dare you bring up statistics and scientific facts into an emotionally charged argument, etc etc.

Nothing in history is so laughably black and white as the story they give us of WW2. That should be a huge red flag right off the bat. The other red flag is that they've made holocaust revisionism a crime in many European countries, and if something is so self-evidently true then you don't need to outlaw any skepticism of it.
Hell, just look at WW1. You see the same nonsensical black and white ideas being spread back then. None of the nuances of the war were recognized, it's just "We're the good guys and Germans are evil, inhuman monsters" but everyone today recognizes bullshit like "Germans tossing babies into the air and catching them with their bayonets" or "Germans crucifying people in the middle of the battlefield for fun" as ridiculous atrocity propaganda.
A particularly outlandish atrocity propaganda story from WW1 was the "German corpse factories"
