Does anyone else feel like that the world is getting worst and that there's nothing to look forward to in the future? I'm not just talking about our personal lives either but society in general, it just doesn't feel like things are going to get any better anymore.

I've felt this for a long time now, ever since I started spending a lot of time following world events and news and becoming more aware of the various social and economic issues facing us. the connectedness of the human race seems to be only making things worse, as poisonous ideologies can spread far faster than ever before and those that oppose them are not only powerless to stop them but are also confronted with them more and more in their every day lives. it's impossible for a reasonably alert person in this day and age to ignore the horrible shit that is piling up faster and faster than we can ever possibly deal with. at this point I'm only hoping that I'll be around to see the whole ugly thing collapse in on itself. I feel like ours is the generation that will witness the "end of the world". part of me hopes I'll make it thru and be part of whatever comes out the other side, but I also realize that is unlikely in the first place, and even less likely to be something that can happen in a single lifetime. we've either started the descent to our eventual extinction, or we're facing down a rapid and cataclysmic decline followed by a very long and slow "recovery"

I don't necessarily buy that, I think we really are destined to inherit the stars (or at least colonize some of our neighbour planets), but we've probably fucked up our chances of achieving it any time soon.

I don't think so. Lots of things that used to be bad have been fixed or have gotten better. We survived the Cold War. There's still plenty of problems, but there's also been lots of progress through human history and in recent times. We can't afford to relax yet, but I think we can also all afford some hope.
