If you like sci-fi you have to give Stephen Baxter's books a shot, they're incredible and they still manage to be hard sci-fi despite all the weird shit that happens in them because the guy has a gorillion degrees and makes everything consistent with real world laws or manages to circumnavigate them (examples: All faster than light engines are also time machines). Really good stuff.
