If I enlist and go K19 in the Army, will people finally respect me?
My entire life I've been looked at as a child. I'm 6'2'', I have wide shoulders, hips aren't wider than my shoulders but still big, I'm a big guy4ubut as a teenager was friendly, so people never took me seriously. Even when my demeanor changed and I rarely spoke, kept an uninteresting look on my face, same thing everywhere, until I started to get aggressive. Used to be an extremely nice and naive kid, helping everyone, community involvement, etc etc despite being poor would volunteer for hours. Very naive.
Honestly I've given up on hopes and dreams. I am an eagle scout, how hard would it be for me to enlist, go K19 Armor Crewman, and eventually become an officer/obtain a career in the US Army? I'm willing to lose weight, get fit, stop shit posting and escaping, and get my shit together, 19 years old now. Went to Uni a year early at 17, dropped out twice since then, drugs, psych ward a few times because depression, now I'm clean and at this point in my life. I do have a terrible time making friends/socializing though, incredibly boring + literally autism, I can hide it behind a few pre-programmed responses but after the first 30 seconds of conversation itsobvious.

used to run miles under 8, highest mileage routine I did in the morning was 3 miles a day and workout in the afternoon.

Fuck. Should I just try for ROTC at my University then? I wasn't sure about going back to Uni but it seems like a better option now.

if you can go back to uni and get in the ROTC program then sure its your safest bet to commissioning
otherwise do your time in, get the degree with the GI bill then apply through OCS

Ranger school is a possibility for any MOS in the Army, I wouldn't bother if you're just a regular autist with no intense drive for a dream though

No. Just no. Unless you put your entire lifetime into it or there's some major war on the horizon, you're not becoming an officer. Even the great generals of WWII went straight into military academies and institutes. Best you could hope for is Master Sergeant after many years of faithful service.
If you have intelligence, physical fitness, and community rapport (your good citizenship through volunteering helps alot) then I suggest putting in a few applications to military institutes.

Any career you could have in the military went down the drain because of this. Depression and suicide is a huge issue in the Army, and they'd rather filter out those who are likely to kill themselves before they spend a lot of time and money on them. Sorry.
Want some advice, OP? This is coming from an E-4 CBRN specialist who is a month away from ETSing.
Joining the Army is great if you want a steady paycheck, free healthcare, working out nearly every day, and free room and board. If you can put up with being treated like a child until you hit Sergeant, that is. How long you can stay in is dependent on how much bullshit you can put up with on a daily basis.
Its up to you, and how bad you want to make it. Might want to pick a different MOS though, you might be too tall to be a tanker. If you want the generic "combat arms" experience, and all of the bullshit that goes with it, go 11B, 12B or 19D. If you have a thing for big noisy and difficult to maintain vehicles, you might get lucky and end up in a Stryker Brigade.

Most applicants from shitty schools with ROTC programs get to be officers. To become an actual active duty officer in something that's not shit though will require you to build yourself up and make yourself look as good as possible while you're in ROTC (i.e. you can't act like a robot).
There is no way they will take you if you've been in a psych ward. You;ll have to lie and if they ever find out you're risking a OTH discharge for fraudulent enlistment. In 2007 they might have but in 2016 there really is no way.

The thing I liked about the Army is doing fucking cool shit. I loved watching out from the door of a helicopter at 10 other UH-60s skimming the tree tops as we fly to the landing zone. I loved feeling that drop before the chute opens. Loved driving cool shit around.
Shit like that always makes me miss it.

You'll have to deal with all the the same bullshit we do normally, which is already a lot because infantry gets dumb pretty often, and then on top of that you will be responsible for more equipment, have longer layouts because of all the extra shit you are responsible for and have to carry even more shit during movements, because those 60mm or 81mm tubs aren't going to move themselves.
