What is a non-meme and rewarding college major?

No business because I obviously can't talk to people
>>
Something you're passionate about. Don't fall for the STEM meme if you aren't legitimately passionate about STEM. You'll want to kill yourself, you won't be successful, and if you get a job in the field you'll hate everyday of your life.
>>
>>27290653
is computer science good?

it says average salary is $50,000 which isnt the best
>>
>>27290616

Advanced manufacturing

It's like Engineering, except you work with machines that are already made not conceptually.

45,000ish/year starting salary minimum. Up to $70,000/yr with experience at the right place

Demand set to grow, not enough grads in place. The gubment doesn't push it as hard as a STEM degree because truth be told, they're not advancing anything just using what's already there.
>>
>>27290682
It's full of reddit memelords (and so is the industry) and is quickly becoming oversaturated. It was probably good for robots once upon a time, but I think that window of opportunity has closed at this point.

>t. Senior comp sci major
>>
>>27290616
>>27290682
Don't be a fucking idiot and choose a degree based on what you think will be the most financially rewarding..all that's gonna get you is a bunch of hate (dogshit employee) and regrets
>>
>>27291050
>t. Sandwich Artisan
>>
Accounting? Don't have to talk to much people and it pays decent.
>>
>>27290616
Medicine if you have the grades / commitment. Depends what you want from life, but my confidence soared, women suddenly became available and idk but the respect feels incredible.
>>
>>27291173
Who the fuck likes accounting? It's literally the most dry boring dogshit
>>
>>27290616
Does anyone know whether I should choose for computer science or computer engineering? Which one of em is better or do they both suck in general?
>>
Study whatever interests you. It's not like you'll be getting a good job anyway. Those are reserved for Chads.
>>
>>27291203
what uni did you go to for your premed education (If you took a premed route, that is.)?
>>
Geography.
>>
>>27291203
>Falling for the medicine meme

everyone fucking millenial has the same mentality...hurry try doctor = money = orgasm. You do realise doctors are gonna be needed less and less as we get A I to do everything
>>
>>27291250
Manchester - it was an undergraduate degree.
>>
>>27291245
Do you really, really, REALLY love math? If so, take engineering.
>>
>>27291269
If you notice - I didn't mention money. There are other benefits to medicine.
>>
>>27291269
>he thinks doctors will be replaced in the next ~40-45 years until that anon retires
>>
>>27291173
Do accounting. The courses are tough so not many people go through with it. 50ish k starting salary if you don't live in the south. you can go up to 80k ish over 5-10 years. you can go up even higher.

Its tough and has a very high suicide rate
>>
>>27290616
depends how much of a robot you are? If you're a confirmed shut in, why not study something you enjoy?
>>
>>27290616
You're gonna have to talk to people no matter what career path you decide on anon...that's life I'm afraid better get used to this idea sooner than later
>>
Bachelor in economics or BBA in Finance?
>>
>>27291538
The amount varies though, working in an environment where you'd constantly have to interact with people would be awful but occasionally having to bug someone about something isn't too bad.
>>
If you know exactly what you want to do with your life that you're willing to spend it miserable to be with your dream career then go to university. Otherwise don't bother.
>>
Liberal Arts/Art

Perfect if you want to meet like-minded people and you happen to be a nerdy weeaboo. Switching to this major is the best decision
I've made, I love it! It's something I'm so passionate about that I don't give a shit about how much money I'd make (I don't want to have a family so this is feasible for me).
>>
>>27290653
First post got it.

The only non-meme, rewarding major is one your enjoy, one you have interest in.
Make sure you've got a little talent for it, of course. And that you understand it. If not, then don't bother with college. If you have a passion for engineering but not the intelligence for university-level stuff then go for a trade.
>>
Do Law you autist, you know you want to, and you're guaranteed a career in it. I'm robot as fuck but I'm still earning over 100k a year
>>
>>27292275
>go for a trade

this honestly, you will literally be on 60k/yr in a matter of months

>>
im 3 years into a maths degree and kicking myself for not going with philosophy or history like i wanted to
had to prove myself to my parents somehow, though
>>
>>27290653
This, except only do it if you are passionate about STEM. If you aren't then just do something else and study philosophy or whatever in your free time.
>>

Lawyer is respectable. They make a lot of money too.
>>
>>27292452
this
just go to law school and be done with it
>>
If you're asking 4chan what to major in you have no reason to attend university. You're an adult now, do what you want to do. Take some time to figure that out if you need to, but don't start a multi year project like a degree based on the opinions of a Babylonian basket weaving forum
>>
>>27292491
Yeah listen to this guy OP. I am in uni right now and doing electrical engineering, it is awful. I would much rather drop out and do whatever I want and not have to deal with the debt. But my mom expects me to go and I don't know where else I'd get a job so... fuck.

What should do?

>computer science
becoming over saturated, and jobs are being taken by pajeet
>Law/business
Requires lots of people skills
>Medicine
Disgusting
>Trades jobs
Doesn't make much money off the bat, will snap my shit up when combined with my regular weightlifting, not to respectable
>military
won't let me join
>engineering
I'm mediocre at math and don't enjoy it, bad job placement

I want something with good job placement, not centered around math, not centered around talking to people, where 60k a year is reasonable, it doesn't have to be something I enjoy but I don't want to do something suicidaly boring like accounting
>>
I'm on a full ride scholarship to a relatively prestigious university, but I suck at math and am a solid B student so no stem for me. I'm also pretty autism and can't talk to many people

What are some majors to look into?
>>
>>27290616
I can say don't do Mathematics
Currently 3rd of 4 years doing an MSc. It's not interesting what so ever. You basically learn the page long proofs for shit you already know. A lot of complex analysis, I groan to myself everytime I hear Eigen-Vectors/Values.

I'd love to do a PHD on something like the twin prime conjecture, as it's genuinely interesting, Maths as a whole is not though.
>>
>>27290653
>First post best post

That said, you can't expect the degree alone to bee enough enough. If you're studying arts or business join the debating society. If you're studying science then look for research scholarships during the holidays. Start volunteering. Join as many uni societies as you can without harming your studies - contacts, even at this stage are the best way to find jobs.
>>
>>27292767
How did you get a full scholarship with a B average, autism and no interest in STEM? Are you fucking kidding me?
>>
>>27292755
computer science is probably a lot more math than you realize it is
i advise to pick up a trade x10
that's what i wish i had done

OP here so I've decided I'm either gonna do Computer Science or Accounting

I don't have a life so sitting in front of a computer and looking at numbers for hours sounds ok to me

which one

computer science if you like solving puzzles
accounting if you like money more than excitement
>>
Ok then I'm gonna take accounting

If it's shit then I will just kill myself no big deal
>>
>>27293297
Accounting is pretty shit. A lot of maths, more theoretical then you'd imagine. Pray you like integration.
>>
>>27293354
I've taken a lot of advanced accounting classes in high school and I liked it i know high school class and real accounting is different but i think i will do fine

The best career advice I can give you is that in the long run it's more important how compatible you are with the "culture" of your field. You can always work on the raw skills and push yourself to go the famous extra mile if you need to get noticed by some CEOfag.

I worked as a copywriter/PRfag for four years and what drained me most was not the actual work (which was sometimes stressful under tight deadlines) but rather the fact that the people there were such unbelievable insufferable normalfags who I just felt zero connection with whatsoever. So every day I had to act like a regular officefag (THIS IS SOME WEATHER HUH?? AMIRITE GUISE!) and still get all my work done, I just couldn't do it anymore.
>>
The only thing I'm good at is art, drawing, making things etc
I am very good at it but honestly what is the point.

So normal everyday life then?
>>
>>27290616

This might be a good place to ask.

I don't want one single career. At best, I want to career hop; failing that, I want a career that requires a wide skill set. I get bored very easily and I can't imagine myself doing 1 thing for the next 50 years.

Any ideas?
>>
I mean I'm an animation major and I love it, just don't go to a shit art school if you want a job in the arts
>>
>>27290682
it can be if you makeit. most people dont make it. most people end up making bullshit enterprise software for a mom and pop shop
>>
>>27290616
Math son. Math is GOAT.
>>
>>27290616
GIS (graphic informational systems) is supposedly the new computer science. If you hop on board quick you should get a cozy job. I know the military and national park service is paying good amounts for them.
>>
>>27290682

If you're actually good at it, yes. If you're some shitter who only passes by cheating his ass off and doesn't really know what he is doing you're gonna have a bad time.
>>
>>27290616
Material Science engineering or metallurgy.
>>
>>27293444
>it's more important how compatible you are with the "culture" of your field
What if OP wants to be a pioneer, a trailblazer, a warrior for justice who changes the culture of the field? He can make youtube videos and complain, endlessly, about the culture and why he hates everything about the field he's trying to get into. Who knows, he may even get a spot on the national news.

>>27291276

>>
>>27293719

It's depressing as fuck and they don't make nearly enough money to fully support themselves and pursue it as a career
>>
>>27292731
>implying it isn't better to die on your feet than live on your knees
>>
>>27291269
Physicians are in crazy demand right now. The problem with medicine isn't that. The problem is that you have to throw away minimum 9 years of your life on absolutely soul crushing education and when you finally make the big bucks you realize that it was never worth it because the costs and risks associated with the profession are astronomical and you have to literally give your whole life to it in most cases with fuck all free time and typically having to be on call if you work a hospital.
The profession becomes something you hate and dread as you have to constantly deal with diseased and miserable idiots with no respite and no reward. I used to be pre-med and all the med friends I have fucking hate it.
>>
>>27291346
Some crazy percentage of doctor visits are for general capitalist existential malaise or because people are lonely.

If people only went to the doctor when they were bleeding, we'd probably need about 95% fewer doctors.
>>
>>27294483
Let's not forget the fags who go in for a cough and badger the doctor until he prescribes something that won't actually help just to make them go away.
>>
>>27294116
Do you know anything else about GIS jobs and salaries...I'm really interested in geography in general, but it seems like there are no jobs at all except in the GIS field
>>
>>27294291
Business is for douchey fratbros to go to school on mommy and daddy's money and make "connections" (aka nepotism).
>>
>>27291245
Depends what you're interested in. To simplify things, CS is software and CE is like the halfway point between CS and Electrical Engineering
>>
>>27294563

You say all this derogatorily, but 1. Nepotism is literally how this shit works you mongoloid. We don't live in a meritocracy (thank god for half the people here, myself included), and 2. Boo hoo, they get to go to school with little to no debt later on, what assholes
