When Solving Tactics Problems
1. Take your time...
*Calculate all lines as far as possible*
*Search equally hard for the opponents possible saves, checks, passed pawns, etc*
*Treat the position like an important OTB tournament game, allow no errors due to miscalculations or poor consideration*
2. Review...
*Screenshot all failed problems, save them and do a brief writeup and what you missed and why you missed it*
*When 1000 such problems are accumulated do an intense review session on all of them*
3. Mentality...
*Treat this as though it were a difficult tournament situation, banish frustration*
*Stop solving problems when your capabilities decrease due to either fatigue or frustration, either do something else for a few minutes or step outside*
5-8 hours a day, every day - Ideally following this program will lead to drastic improvement.
Waste of time. Study something productive.

mhm, like 4chan right? It's something I enjoy and seeing myself improve is a very rewarding feeling. There are also monetary opportunities, mostly connected with teaching if I manage to gain a title (which is only 200 rating away at the moment).
I'm sure you use your time studying computer programming and mathematics right?
>>27289332
ya I do. Also music, cooking, health and nutrition and physical exercise.
Will doing this help me to become a mastermind senpai?
>>27289332
>getting this defensive that someone called playing a game a waste of time
Cringed. I'm sure you're so fun to be around.
>>27289434
It will help you play chess better. Might have some other cognitive benefits as well, generally studying anything which requires brain power/calculation is helpful.
Generally tho it will only really help you play chess a lot better.
What's your feeday rating, OP?
>>27289439
I defended the practice of studying chess, ya. I don't accept that it's a waste of time.
And, assuming I were around someone irl I think it might be somewhat in poor taste for them to point out that something I enjoy and spend time on is a waste of time. Maybe I wouldn't want to be around them?
I'm bad at chess. Someone practice with me please. I'm bored.

Well I have a dream to teach it by skype for $30 an hour while living in cheap countries. For that I need at least a NM title but preferably FM. Don't shit on my dream please.
>>27289900
1300 rating is a lot higher than a pure beginner. If you never play chess beyond knowing the rules and playing with friends on very rare occasions your rating is probably between 700-900 depending on how good you are at focusing.
>>27289754
I agree that chess.com isn't great but I like the board and I'm comfortable on it. For some reason I just don't like Lichess.
I plan to get an ICC subscription soon though. However I'm trying to play almost no games and simply grind tactics all day every day.
>love chess
>suck at it
it's a hard life

my chesscube rating is 1377
its not great but i think i could be a bit higher than that. last game i played i rekkt a 1600 rating about 1 hour ago
>>27290016
Don't worry, this is nearly everyone who plays.
>>27289972
Damn, really? It was the lowest setting so I thought it was absolute beginner.
>>27290115
Most pure beginners can't beat any computer, even on the easiest setting.
The difference between a 900 (upper end of pure beginner) player and a 1200 (below average tournament player) player is very extreme.

Thanks Anon. Now I feel like I can actually improve instead of being completely hopeless from the get go.
>wanna get friends/family into chess
>they either blow it off by saying its boring or get mad when they refuse to learn basic shit and lose
