The problem is that people naturally make an instant judgement of a person based on looks.
If you're not attractive, you get put into the, "I'm probably never going to get romantically involved with you" column, and then you have to spend an inordinate amount of time proving that you're worthy of not being in that category where an attractive person has a natural in.
An attractive person doesn't have to prove themselves worthy of your company, they just have to be attractive and not be a total social failure.
