Hey /r9k/ I am curious about what your favorite movie of 2015 was.

I'm going with this one: It had great scenery and violence.
>>
Mad Max but im movie pleb, didnt saw much movies
>>
>>27249539
I only saw 3 movies in 2015 because I'm not a fucking normie.

They were Birdman, DBZ Resurrection of F, and Starwars.

I liked Birdman and DBZ a lot, but SW7 was fucking shit.
>>
personAlly i LoVed mad max fury road. It was like a Non-stop ActioN sequence, Determined To give me tHrills and awEsome sCenery. the film filled all my cHIldhood dreams about Peril and action while Making sUre that i Never lost interest. i Know ill watch that movie for yearS to come
>>
>>27249692
Birdman was a 2014 movie, but I'm glad you liked it! Check out The Revenant if you can it's the same director and cinematographer
>>
The hateful eight tbqh
>>
>>27249727
I did watch The Revenant. I didn't like it as much as Birdman.
>>
>>27249698
You okay, f a mm?
>>
>>27249539
Sicario tbqh, not the best movie but my favorite by far.
>>
yea, I'm sticking with the revenent. Leo shouldn't have won an award for it though, he didn't do anything really special in it. yes

I don't know why mad max is so popular. it's an OK action movie but nothing special. it was nice to see practical effects but the whole movie felt like it tried too hard to be entertaining. the effort would have been better spent making a new movie rather than a fucking remake.

Mad Max by far. I felt The Revenant was too anti climatic. Plus Leo was really bad and didn't deserve the oscar.
>>
>>27249948
I really wanted to like anomalisa but it fell way too short of my expectations. especially considering its Kaufmans first since synecdoche. pretty mediocre imo
>>
Room

Mad Max has no story
>>
>>27249850
Ah never has a movie made me so tense in years. That whole move was a ride and it was fucking fantastic. The final act with the raid on the compound was fucking incredible.

They were all shit, i'm forced to still watch movies from 2000's-60's-80's-90's because everything these days is rehashed shit.
>>
>>27250044
2000s was fairly rehashed too man. Cinema in the classical sense died when Pup Fiction won the Palm d'Or. Ever since then it's all POSTMODERNISM LMAO
>>
>>27250027
Which should I watch first, Anomalisa or Synecdoche? Only Kaufman movie I've seen is Eternal Sunshine and I thought it was overrated. I like movies that make me think but I don't want something snobbish and overly artsy.
>>
>>27249539
My favorite, and objectively best movie was The Revenant, I also liked Mad Max, Carol, Sicario, Room and Ex Machina though
>>
The Big Short. The mains really bounced off each-other well, it was funny and it had Ryan Gosling.

The worst had to be Spotlight. It was so emotionless halfway through you start asking yourself "why does this movie want me to see them nail the church if they haven't invested any feeling whatsoever into the actual victims." That oscar was the mass media wanking itself off.
>>
>>27250029
I didn't like sicario that much, but the raid into Mexico was really intense. all the little things going on in that sequence were great, the sound especially, it really felt like they were headed into a war zone.
>>
>>27250083
Synecdoche is not overly artsy and is better than Anomalisa, if you don't mind old movies I would also suggest you watch Otto e Mezzo which has a similar concept to Synecdoche
>>
>>27250103
The Big Short was so underrated. How the fuck did Spotlight win over that? I figure it was gonna be the two of them for Best Picture but The Big Short was an actual MOVIE rather than a dour docudrama with famous actors.
>>
>>27250143
Just how the Artist won. The Academy loves movies about themselves.
>>
>>27250083
go watch adaptation, then watch being John Malkovich. after that watch synecdoche

synecdoche is pretty artsy and has weird symbolism all over the place, but it's really one of best movies in the past 20 years and it's very ambitious

anomalisa is alright but just watch it last, it's not that good.
>>
>>27250143
The Big Short was poorly edited, the camera work felt almost like a tv show or an amateur film, I also hate Spotlight though and I think The Revenant and Mad Max were clearly the 2 superior movies from 2015
>>
>>27250184
How is Spotlight about the academy?
>>
>>27250027
It's far from Kaufman's best work, but I always try to avoid setting expectations as much as I can. I also didn't read anything about the movie, so the premise was a surprise, in a pleasant way. I need to watch it again, but the movie really resonated with me emotionally in a way that made me feel very uncomfortable, which is rare for a movie to do for me.

I just saw it three days ago, and I was sleep deprived, so it might fall off after a rewatch, but I considered it a very unique experience that no other movie this year has made me, well, experience.

>>27250083
Adaptation. It's very grounded, much more so than either of the two you were thinking of, and if you want to avoid "snobbish and overly artsy", Adaptation is a safe bet.
>>
>>27250196
The editing of The Big Short WAS really shoddy (the music drowning out the dialogue in several scenes was absurd at times). But it was still much better than Spotlight. I knew Revenant and Mad Max weren't winning the top prize because they had many other awards to win
>>
Into the Heart of the Sea?
>>
>>27250044
What's your favorite movie from the 60s?
>>
>>27250196
>>27250232
That was a stylistic choice by the producers. It's supposed to look like good ol' cheesy 2000s party time.

>>27250218
It was about the mass media, whether it's Hollywood, journalism or critics. It's all self-congratulatory.
>>
>>27250243
Is that good? I got strong Master & Commander vibes from the trailer, but it got released at the same time as Star Wars and I never got a chance to see it.
>>
Here's what I watched in 2015:

>Jurassic Park 3
>>
>>27250253
60s was a pretty low decade of film, but Into the Heat of the Night was a classic. As was The Wild Bunch.
>>
>>27250229
I felt like Kaufman was repeating himself a bit too much in anomalisa. the whole everyone-looks-the-same thing felt like just an expanded reimagined version of the Malkovich Malkovich scene.

I didn't hate it, just was expecting more.
>>

>>
>>27250044
>leaving out the best decade for cinema
>>
>>27250292
I enjoyed it quite a bit. Not really like Master and Commander. Into the Heart of the Sea was probably better if you already liked the story of the Essex whaler. Note though that the film has some weak acting. Helmsworth especially pretty talentless outside of physically look right for the part.
>>
who else hasn't even watched star wars yet? Im still waiting for the torrent. I'm just going to watch it just for the hell of it, don't really care that much about anything star wars related.
>>
>>27250447
It's fairly... eh. It's had puppets, and storm troopers, and Harrison Ford, and I guess that's what most people wanted.
>>
>>27250447
Never watched any of the Star Wars movies before, don't really care
>>
>>27250329
>low decade of film
>2001
>Dr Strangelove
>Pierrot Le Fou
>Otto e Mezzo
>High and Low
>Winter's Light
>Last Year at Marienbad
>Au Hasar Balthazar
>Psycho
>Persona
>Andrei Rublev

and those are just from the top of my head
>>
>>27249651
What this fellow said.

I REALLY liked Mad Max though.
>>
>>27250498
I read all the spoilers on /tv/ so I kind of know the movie already. the whole movie sounds very soft and safe, which is pretty much what I expected coming from that hack Abrams.I
>>
whiplash.

I also liked ex machina and nightcrawler
>>
>5. Ant Man
>4. Focus
>3. The Revenant
>2. Mad Max: Fury Road
>1. The Hateful Eight

Throw Star Wars in the fucking dumpster. But I'm glad to see some other robros who go see movies. Its the only place I go besides work.
>>
>>27250722
>>4. Focus
KEK
>>
>>27250196
Thought I was the only one that noticed this.
Figured it was cus budget because they had so many A listers and copyright for Ludicrous and Nirvana songs.
But for real, it just felt so poorly put together.
With a proper sound design, cinematography, and score, it could've been amazing.
>>
>>27250329
60s was probably the golden film era.
I went to school for this shit, don't argue with me.
Everything from the 1800s to 1959 was setting up the technology, acting, and directors to bring life to the silver screen.
I still watch 60s movies with bitches (aka my puppers)
>>
Revenant was best movie in years.
Star Wars was adequate; not good, not bad.
Mad Max is garbage without Gibson.
Martian was pleasant, terrific graphics and script

I mainly caught up on my TV in 2015, but I really need to get back into movies
>>
Hateful eight and revenant were both pretty good and both had a snowy comfy atmosphere.

Still waiting for the witch to come out online other then that everything else has been pretty shit.
>>
>>27251822
I waited so fucking long for the witch, looks so fucking good.
But my theater has an unironic NSP, and my only friend says it's gay to see a horror movie with another guy.
I'm probably just gonna hire an escort to watch it with me
