I'm interested in the history of this board. How went from being a programmatically moderated board to the homeworld of basement dwellers who brag about neethood?
>>
>>27234693

It all began when the hurdy-gurdy man came singing songs of love.
>>
Well I know the first part. It all started with Randall Munroe's (Of XKCD fame) Robot 9000. You can read about it here.

I know how it started, but I can't grasp how a system conceived to enforce original content spawned the biggest echochamber in the wired.

i heard every poster on this board is actually just an alternate timeline version of mootles voicing his woes

even me

people posted a lot of greentext and the most common was relationship problems, hence /relationshit/. Moot got mad that his shitty gentlemen board experiment didnt go well after nuking old /b/ so he nuked arcanine as well. then eventually the bitter virgins got so annoying that he finally brought the board back up (with basically no announcement btw) for a containment board
also early 2011 was the best this board has ever, and will ever be

r9k became my homeboard after /news/ got deleted back in 2008. I remember old r9k as a fairly friendly place where you can find self-improvement threads and greentext tier type stories without greentext. It was a very comfy place. I escaped 4chan in 2010. I came back in 2012 and found r9k a remnant of itself. Apparently it got deleted and brought back. It became a place for beaches and shores and mysoogyknees. Then came frogposting and this place got worst.

A few days after Hiroshima, Agent of NSA, bought 4chan from Punished Moot and reinstated the robot filter, I made a post called The Oral History of Robot Nine Thousand. I've seen this board from its inception, death, and rebirth, and I thought my observations on how Robot9000 became Robot9000(+1) might at the very least bream up the monotony of the umpteenth Pepe thread but no. I think within an hour it was already on the last page. If this thread is still up by the time I get home from work I'll type out r9k's history again

It's been happening to 4chan as a whole.
I can't fully articulate it but from the nature and structure of this site creates a Darwinian breeding ground for ideas
The ideas that resonate the most with board inhabitants get posted the most. The more they get posted, the more they get seen and spread. As they pass through the collective consciousness, they get refined, basically streamlined to be as relateable and re-postable as possible

So whatever the zeitgeist of a particular board is, whatever ideas are the strongest and exist in the greatest number of minds, that's the general direction the board will go.

And of course it works both ways, when a board establishes itself to be of a certain kind of place, then people who fit in there will be drawn to it, reinforcing the mindset

It's toxic, but fascinating

I escaped around the same time. And yet, here we both are.

Basically at that time the biggest problem facing 4chan was reaction images

Users of most boards had practically stopped typing altogether in favour of spamming the same repetitive image macros ad nauseam

Moot thought banning these images would result in a slower board more like the early days of 4chan, where people would often take hours to respond to posts with original images

But contemporary 4chan was moving too fast for this, so /r9k/ users were forced to resort to greentext instead of reaction images for their memes

In those days the most common expression on the site was >mfw X happens (my face when),

it was like desu senpai or cuck is today, but obviously on /r9k/ we couldn't post faces, so we started doing >tfw and the rest is obvious from there

>echochamber
HURR DURR DHURURHDUHURHDUHRUDUHRHURDRR

you see, it all started when HURR DURR HURR DURR

And then HURR DURR DURHUDUR
>>
I was here in 2010/11 and we were already complaining about >tfwnogf, but we did have regular high quality greentext threads.

there's like two trips here and one at least explained correctly
>>
People posting a lot of greentext stories, often using these sort of tophat gentlemen sort of images along with their threads, discussions were a bit more calm and a lot more diffrrnt topics. not as extreme beliefs but still about the same idea about women and stuff.
Not as much memes or tripfags being attentionwhores.
This is what i remember earliest r9k.
Then it just slowly became what it is today

When the board got reinstated, /jp/, formerly where NEETs and virgins liked to hang out, banned virgin/neet/pony posting, and they all came here.
