I've been thinking about this for a while now. The conclusion I've come to is that there are enough users on 4chan now that the additional waves of new users don't actually have much of an effect on the site overall.
There was a time when they did, and certainly the site is much, much different from what it was 10+ years ago. However, with the amount of users it has now, it will take a monumental shift in the user base to really alter the content. The site has actually streamlined itself into a very efficient and resilient memetic machine, for lack of a better term.

I still post here daily, when I'm at home or in the office, but this website doesn't play the same role in my life it used to.

That's the single biggest reason I'm getting sick of most of the boards here. Maybe I've just grown up, but I remember having a lot of fun here and even on /b/ when I was younger. People could take a joke and be absolutely brutal to one another, but generally eased off the gas and could have serious discussions about serious topics. Now, no matter what the conversation may be, there's always a horde of autists trying to call everyone a faggot and be le edgy master troll.
Only decent boards are /trv/, /out/, and a few of the other less-heavily traffic-ed places. I know in /trv/, people will usually respond to troll threads and posts by telling them to fuck off back to /int/ or /pol/ and to stop shitting up a good board.
I think it's partially because /trv/ and /out/ posters, by necessity, have to be a bit more affluent and mature to enjoy their respective hobbies. Most 16-year old boys can't afford to go anywhere by themselves, so they don't bother posting.
