It's an amazing career but most people who join have worked in the real world for a bit, have post grad qualifications or are extremely motviated/completed lots of top internships.
It's what I want to do too, but there's a reason why last year or the year before the average age of appointment was 27.
In terms of MP offices, you have to work for free I'm afraid, because they can't afford to pay you because of 'MUH PUBLIC MONEY'.
Just ring up and say you're studying atm, you're really interested in getting work in politics and have been following what the MP has been doing and like (insert thing he/she has done) and (again), do they have any internsihps or if not the opportunity to come in and get some experience for your CV.
If they say not at the minute, ask if they will at some point over the coming months and if you can ring back.
Some are cunts and not arsed but some have caseworkers/assistants who are really nice, know what it's like (because they'd have been doing the same a few years earlier) and will make room for you.
It's shit whilst you do it but it's worth it when you get a job as a researcher/ in public affairs for a huge company/ etc etc because it's well respected and has unlimited potential

Yes you could, and indeed a lot of people do. Mr. Operations Director used to be a civil servant, then used his knowledge of how we work and connections/networking to score a high paid job in a contractor that works with the civil service.
