...no? link to thread?
i've listened to some lectures given by monks and all in all i find a lot about their beliefs make sense.
it's more accurate to call buddhism a practice than religion, i think. also, why would i care how other people perceive me? i'm not buddhist, i'm not anything. i practice breathing meditation sometimes when i feel overwhelmed and it's been very helpful.
people who identify as buddhist or anything else for that matter are missing the point entirely.

prayer>meditation
I don't give a fuck about their soteriological project but Buddhist philosophy is dank as fuck. Give pic related a read if you're curious. It's a general overview but considering people have been fighting about Buddhist metaphysics, epistemology, logic, etc for 1600 years there's a lot to discuss.

For white people who want a deeper meaning to life but are afraid of letting go of their fedora.
Buddhism is a religion through and through. There are different branches of Buddhism and each of those branches have their own school and sects and all of those have their own rituals and prayers and deities and temples. Monks live in monasteries and nuns live in nunneries. It's a religion. It even has terrorists.
There's nothing wrong with adopting its core practices and beliefs as your own philosophy, but it's still a religion.

It has. It turned me from a really shitty person from a less-than-shitty person. It also lowered my anxiety by a lot. I wouldn't call myself a very good Buddhist, but I try.
Turned me from a narcissist wannabe intellectual to a compassionate and loving person who enjoys every single moment of this life
Also helped me stop doing drugs and get my shit together
yeah man buddhism is the shit

eh, obviously most sects of it are religious but there are denominations that are very much non religious an only concerned with mindfulness and philosophy like zen.
