/v/ is video game /b/, this used to be a joke about the many off topic threads, but now it's true down to the userbase. Just as Chanology killed /b/, GamerGate flooded /v/ with newfags and epic ween kids that won't go away.
/a/ is easily the worst.
/v/ has a huge userbase and you can find great threads amongst the shit - also whenever something big is happening /v/ can be awesome.
I honestly don't think that /v/ has changed since gamergate, the only thing that changed it significantly was when they made /vp/ and /vg/. They got rid of all those fucking generals that pushed content off the board.
I've spent so much time on this board that I definitely hate it more than any other. However objectively /b/ is the worst, it serves no purpose except as a containment board for newfags.

Every so often, /v/ can have truly great threads.
Space engine threads, stargate/startrek/farscape threads, geology and minerals threads. Great stuff. Pops up every so often. It can't be planned and can never carry on for multiple threads. Happens about twice a week and if you miss it, you miss it.
