This is just blatantly untrue as well, it's the sort of thinking that makes people think that fit people are dumb, or that rich people are automatically assholes, or that anyone better than them in any way has a small dick. There's nothing inherent about the way you look that means you'll have a better or worse personality, ugly people and attractive people can have both.

Well, I mean, that's a hell of statement, Charles Manson had access to what was essentially a harem, and he was hardly model looking, and plenty of other people with personality features that make them stand out in other ways do have active sex lives (musicians, for example, who may be incredibly poor or ugly).
But sure, if you're purely talking about the sort of people that browse /r9k/, who really don't have much of a personality to speak of, or at least nothing particularly interesting (being unhappy isn't a personality, sufffering is never a substitute), then sure, people who're good looking don't really have anything to be attracted to if they aren't good looking or rich.

It's probably because they assume a certain amount of physical/sexual attraction being required is obvious.
Much like how someone with a great personality but unattractive looks (in the eyes of the woman in question) won't become more than good friends at best (even if they try a relationship, over time it proves that the lack of physical attraction is detrimental), a guy with great looks but no or crappy personality will be great for sex and such but won't be longterm serious relationship material. Of course in both cases women exist who are very insecure or lonely and prefer an unfulfilling relationship over none at all, which leads to them staying with either type of guy, but it's not the general way it goes.
There needs to be a certain balance between the two, and if a woman has only a set amount of points to distribute among looks and personality, once physical attraction is guaranteed most other points go to personality.
The same goes for men generally, although it's not uncommon to find men who will rate women much higher by default for being women. (Simple put, some men would fuck anything/anyone if given the chance.)
With this, the need for a certain amount of physical/sexual attraction is easily met even if a woman is relatively unattractive, leaving only personality of seeming importance to said men.
This is all disregarding the importance of non-verbal communicative skills and body language altogether, as well as confidence, which all can be attributed to personality traits yet affect how physically attractive one is considered by quite a lot.
