Normal Robot things aside, why is it so hard to find anything nice, motivating or happy in this country, when it seems else where there is so much more

its nothing but fake fades and dying shitholes with no life or humanity,

and more and more sadly it seems the all so touted American people who we are constantly reassured of of being morally superior and friendly and easygoing and "equal" are being proven to be full of shit

what gives
>>

>>
Because you're trying to buy into an ideal that you already know is false, imo. You can't force it. Look elsewhere or try to change it.

There are people who find things to be motivated and happy about in America... sometimes

Real answer, though, is I don't know why.

Stay out of these rural communities. There's nothing there for anybody, unless you want to be surrounded by fundamentalist assholes constantly judging your way of life.

It's not so bad in some of the more urban areas, but that really depends on the city. Western states tend to have cleaner cities with good law enforcement and plenty of active recreation.

The only places that are "alive" are places people take selfies at. In a time when social media can determine your failure or success, it is important to get in on it as early as possible to ensure success for as long as possible.

I'd wager these depressing places have no social media presence and are therefore serve no purpose to the average young American. If there's no gratification to be had in a particular location, there's no reason for someone to go there in an age where everyone is fixated on instant gratification.

Alternatively, it's not a depressing place but your dopamine receptors are completely fried from participating in happenings that are centered around instant gratification and anything that requires a tiny bit of effort to get that gratification is "oppressive" or "marginalizing" and therefore must be changed to allow the largest number of people with the most average intelligence to accomplish effortlessly in an increasingly feminist society.

Because they are too expensive for too little functionality for someone who isn't a tech aficionado to appreciate, like any technology that is newish.

Technology can only be integrated in society to the average level of it's entire population. There are people out there who still don't know how to use computers properly even though they've been around awhile now.

When everyone knows how to install an OS and maintain a computer, then the average person can worry about smart appliances.

I think smarthouses are cool as fuck though. It'd be pretty cozy to be able to control everything from your room with a phone or something.

Yes, that's such a pressing issue. Meanwhile there are tumblr blogs and subreddits dedicated to making people lose their jobs for simply having the audacity to disagree with their views.
Or how about the thousands of people who shut down that political rally in Chicago last week because "racism"?
Or being FORCED to watch videos on how saying "hello" to a woman at work can be "sexual harassment"?
Or how you have news, entertainment, government officials, etc. all saying you need to be "politically "correct"" or you'll "face the consequences of your actions"?

And what schools are at risk of teaching bible nonsense? None. Meanwhile SJWs LITERALLY indoctrinate children. There's so many examples I could give for that

The larger a population grows, the more unintelligent people there are. I think America just grew way too fast and now we have too many people running around doing stupid shit that makes them need a fuckton of money, so the average person ends up equating money to happiness, which is the antithesis to everything we were told as children.

Also, as a child I was taught to be kind to everyone and accept everyone. With the recent surge in "political correctness", people have justified being kind selectively to groups that pander to their interests. For example, someone who identifies as a humanitarian may say they are supportive of anyone, but as soon as someone conflicts with their belief system, they become an evil that must be stomped from existed.

Look at the refugee situation. Humanitarians wanted to welcome in all of the refugees because "itz so hard not having a home!!1" while there were people who were concerned that some terrorists might try to infiltrate other countries under the guise of a refugee. The humanitarian will immediately attack the individual who questioned the legitimacy of a refugee because the humanitarian mistakenly believes that the individual hates all refugees and believes them all to be terrorists just because the individual doesn't completely adhere to their belief system.

All of this going on while people are preaching how everyone is equal and deserves a chance, yet the white male/heterosexual are becoming increasingly demonized because they didn't drink the kool-aid.

There's some crazy dissonance.

Idiocracy is becoming real, desu.

If you believed climate change 100% then you'd have to explain why Al Gore's doomsday predictions haven't come true yet. Or why these predictions KEEP failing, and why the historical numbers keep changing.
What's more likely, that the records just happened to be all wrong and they had to legitimately update their previously recorded global average temperatures or that people are lying about an incredibly politicized issue, making money on the side.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/energy/6491195/Al-Gore-could-become-worlds-first-carbon-billionaire.html

Maybe you should actually look into things instead of blinding trusting "experts". Though many of those experts actually speak out against it as well.

Exactly this.

Even just as far as the architecture goes it's shit wall-to-wall.

Go to Europe or Asia and their big cities are a mix of ancient temples/churches and monuments and historical districts, mixed in with brand-new modern and exciting neon-lit buildings.

Go to a major city in the States like New York or Chicago and it's all turn-of-the-century shit-colored skyscrapers. Outside of the major cities you have rows and rows of identical mass-produced suburbs surrounded by the same mass-produced strip malls and a wal-mart or something. Even South American third world countries still manage to make their wooden huts more lively by painting them bright blue or red or orange or anything besides beige/brown/grey. Even the cars bought and sold are always the same business-suit type of colors.

>>27162137

why is public education so shitty? part of the problem is our schools are filled with black/brown people which lower the standards for everyone else. white americans don't score lower on tests than white europeans generally.

also, kids don't give a fuck anymore. we have a shitty culture, they get that from the media. it is well known that pride in one's race and community and the desire to make it better is a great motivator for discipline. in a rootless society like modern america people just insulate themselves and don't care to make their community stronger, because the community is defined only by lines on a map

Maybe people who pass a difficult entrance examination should go to public university for free? Maybe people who can't pass that examination shouldn't be allowed in until they can?

Oh wait, that makes way too much fucking sense, and then po' ol Shaquan would never get to play basketball and get a business degree at the same time.

You do realize guaranteed loans already let colleges charge whatever the fuck they want for tuition, right? They can just add that to the bill and force the lowest students to go grab private loans if necessary.

I mean, there are actually people out there with a 200k SL debt for undergraduate degrees. Can you fucking imagine that? I have a buddy with something like 95k of debt for a biology degree. That's a goddamned mortgage for a piece of paper that says you're vaguely familiar with the topic you studied.

College in the US is just fucking insane, and it doesn't make sense for the majority of students actually enrolled right now. This whole job-mill thing is ridiculous and silly.

Let's dismantle this one by one.

>College
Most of the top colleges in the world are in the US. The USA has most of the best colleges, and in general has one of the highest quality post-secondary education systems.
https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2015/world-ranking#!/page/0/length/25
Here's one such listing.

>Healthcare
In countries with completely socialized healthcare, the quality tends to be low, the waits long and the visitation times short.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2043071/
There's one paper on that issue.

>Public transit
Pic related. Most of the country is rural area and people who want to move between cities can get there faster and easier by flying than if we spent all the money building new train lines.
Public transit within cities are completely the responsibility of the city's government. Not a national issue.

>Legal drugs
It's already happening here. Maybe you should actually take part in the system and VOTE.

Why don't you go take a look at England, nigger. They're getting to be as fat as the US, by they still manage to have a real healthcare system.

This idea that taxes should only be allowed to subsidize huge industries that may or may not give jobs to citizens is a uniquely American idea.

Hey, here's an idea: Let's slice off a few percentage points off of the military budget and actually tax capital gains like a civilized nation does.

>b-b-but then all the rich people will just go to um um um...w-well none of the countries with modern infrastructure have taxes as small as the US....y-you know, a third-world country where they will have the economic freedom they need! And it'd be impossible to stop people from stashing their money in tax havens, it's not like congress is just lobbied to prevent any suffocation of loopholes!

>Maybe people who pass a difficult entrance examination should go to public university for free?
They do. It's called a scholarship. The excellent excel and the lesser people take loans. If you're not being batshit retarded then those loans will tend to be manageable. You're supposed to be a fiscally responsible adult, so don't say you can't handle loans when you'll be making $50k+ easily. College is an investment, much like a home. Should the Government start giving us free homes? That would solve the homelessness issue after all, and homes are widely considered to be a necessity to even LIVE at this point in time.

>You do realize guaranteed loans already let colleges charge whatever the fuck they want for tuition, right? They can just add that to the bill and force the lowest students to go grab private loans if necessary.
Government created the issue, so the solution is to throw more government at it?

People are fucking too much, having too many kids whom they can't properly raise, then they become adults and have no idea what the fuck to do so they become homeless.

But our entire economy is a giant ponzi sceme that breaks down when population growth slows. Capitalism works when you assume a constantly growing market, supply of natural resources and labor force. It becomes inefficient when you don't have those.

And with the east and the Islamic states reproducing as fast as they can we need to keep our population up to compete. We're at war right now, it's just an economic war not a military one

True, but that's because they may not want this happening, not because they necessarily hate people who hail from a particular country or are of a certain religious faith, but because you could be willingly allowing people who will actively destroy members of your community after you've opened your arms to them.

I've never been to France but I have gone to Italy. the country side there looks nothing like that. I stayed in a mountainous village for a month. they had a small butcher shop, small grocery store, and a small bar all within walking distance. the bar was also a cafe and served food, sold cigarettes, etc. for anything else we had to drive like 30-40 minutes down the crazy mountain roads to the small "city" part of the area. they had typical city stuff there like clothing, phone stores, pastries, banks, etc.

on the highways they had places similar to a truckstop. what impressed me was they had legit fucking pastry shops there and delis. no McDonald's or any of that shit. the highways were completely empty there, it was like North Korea tier empty.

try living somewhere else, really, most European countries take a few ours to drive across, the weather is always the same, the people are all the same, the landscapes aren't anything you cant find in the united states other than major landmarks. spend all your money right now and go there and see how long it takes to get bored, ive traveled many places and thats just the fact of the matter, you get used to it.

Europe is a continent, not a country. Aside from that, I agree. Not to say that there aren't interesting things going on in the United States or that it doesn't have natural beauty, but a lot of the countryside, towns, suburbs, and cities are hideous.

That's just what happens when development occurs very quickly, being carried out by companies that don't care and built around cars.

True. Also most of the people aren't very good looking, so it's not like you're THE ugly guy in town.

I live in a city right now, and it's not too bad. I've moved all over the US though. If you do your research and visit a place enough times, you can find a town that caters to your personality easy enough. If you're able to get into a STEM field it is pretty easy to do some small contracts here or there to get feels for certain areas to see what you like.

I HATED a lot of big cities on the east coast, but the West Coast can be really hit or miss. Not a lot of black people, everyone is happy and high as a kite....it is kind of a culture shock after cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Raleigh, etc.

Small towns can be pretty hit or miss, just like big ones you should really do your homework first.

I can relate to this feel, everything here feels so bleak and desolate, so dead. It doesn't matter if I go into the rural parts, or the suburban, or the city, its all the same.

I go to VCU in Richmond, VA, I commute, I live in the suburbs, rural stuff surrounds the suburbs, and then to the north beyond the rural you hit the city.
Its completely boring, the city is just a mass of dirt poor hobos and projects people, a very small "downtown" economic sector which is just a few sky rises they use for banking, there are a bunch of shitty apartments, and then there is VCU which has fuck all to do except sit in the commons and eat fast food, sit in the library and do nothing, or go to the gym.

Also I agree with the whole "americans suck in general" bit, they really do. Americans like to think of themselves as being super nice and friendly and inclusive but really most of them are selfish and shallow and materialistic and superficial. They only ever act semi-nice to other people like them and even then its all about social manoeuvring and status.

It's all so fucking fake.

Literally the only thing that links me with the normies on any level is my extreme desire for sex (never had sex before and I want it to be without a condom), but even I sometimes wonder if its worth all this heart ache, sometimes I wonder if I should just give up, use fleshlights, keep my head down and rush into class, do my work, go home, and wait for either the country to burn or for me to be done with college and then move to another country.

I don't know, I'll have to decide depending on whether Trump wins or not.

I think it's primarily a zoning/infrastructure problem. Most parts of the US are sprawled out too much for any connections to form between the people. In order for a group of people to feel like a connected group of people, they need to see each other and be around each other a lot. Sprawled areas get very little of that kind of exposure, because anytime you're out of your fenced-off suburban dwelling you're either in an isolated car going somewhere or you're at your destination, which is probably populated by a pre-selected segment of people. It's a layout that can only promote cliques at best. The public spaces that exist also tend to be ugly, abandoned and shitty; nobody wants to be there except for people with nowhere else to go, and anyone who is there is likely to just ignore the others awkwardly.

The opposite is something like a classic Italian city. Being ancient, they're designed around foot traffic, and while cars can get around in these places, there's still plenty of foot traffic; this exposes people to other people frequently. Also, the cities often have beautiful public spaces that everyone wants to be in and that lots of people are in because lots of people live very near to them; walking distance. This general culture of closeness also fosters other aspects of local life. Side note, it also keeps those people healthier even if they don't eat perfectly well because they get more incidental exercise.

There's obviously other things going on, but I think the isolation in America is a big part of it, and an underappreciated part of that is the physical isolation that occurs as a result of how most of our cities are built and maintained. I think a big part of the gentrification phenomenon, the rush back to the cities, is a desire to escape that physical isolation and feel like part of a community again.

America has always been a desert.

Read the book America by Jean Baudrillard.

>America ducks the question of origins; it cultivates no origin or mythical authenticity; it has no past and no founding truth. Having known no primitive accumulation of time, it lives in a perpetual present.

>This country is without hope. Even its garbage is clean, its trade lubricated, its traffic pacified.

>Driving is a spectacular form of amnesia. Everything is to be discovered, everything to be obliterated.

Another quote about America:
>Disneyland exists in order to hide that it is the 'real' country, all of 'real' America that is Disneyland (a bit like prisons are there to hide that it is the social in its entirety, in its banal omnipresence, that is carceral). Disneyland is presented as imaginary in order to make us believe that the rest is real, whereas all of Los Angeles and the America that surrounds it are no longer real, but belong to the hyperreal order and to the order of simulation. It is no longer a question of a false representation of reality (ideology) but of concealing the fact that the real is no longer real, and thus of saving the reality principle.

We can't just knock down old skyscrapers just to make cities look nicer, especially when they hold several thousand people's jobs daily. Take a look at the new World Trade Center, and you'll get an idea of modern American architecture.

I come from new zealand but I've travelled to america

america looks cool and pretty from far away but when you acually go there right up close it's filthy and not glamourus like the movies. there's trash and homelessness and crazy people and nobody is very friendly and there's crazy religious people, american people are all so loud like so fucking loud, and they have lots of hand movements, they're all very vain, the guys all go to the gym and the women are offputtng, not feminine at all

plus in america, you ave like 22 year olds getting plastered and acting like teenagers, because they can't drink legally till 21 so it's like they're really big physically but their minds are so immature

american men seem to be really obsessed with sex, and sex with a lot of women they don't care if it's ananoymous as in they don't really know her. The way they approach and 'hit on' women is so disgusting they're rude and crass and the women seem to think that the loudest most rude male is the most attractive.

also, honestly I try not to be racist but you can' help notice that most of the black people are just proper scum; agressive, violent, ignorant, I mean I shouldn't say this but I couldn't help thinking "fucking nigger/s". They're so uneducated, stupid, and agressive.

Americans also think that success in life IS the amount of money you have, and how well you show it off. You know like in other countries I've been to, we think like having a lot of money allows you to live the kind of life you want, whatever that might be and it will allow you to be successful in what your goals etc are. But for americans, they don't care about that, their goal is just MONEY. They want money like it has intrinsic worth. And they show off their money. They buy fancy cars and clothes and things, not because they really wanted that object, but because they can use that object to show people how much money they have, that they could buy the stupid thing.

Americans are crazy religios as well

It's what happens when capitalism meets technology. Soulless half vacant strip malls, empty lots and slums, everyone for themselves, no national identity aside from freedumbs and military.

Capitalism brings prosperity, but it also brings fickleness and waste.

Ameribro here, there's nothing wrong with racism
black culture promotes the idea that whitey owes you everything because your great great grandfather worked on a plantation. It also promotes stealing shit, raping women, killing other black people, and general niggadry

Anyone in your shoes, when confronted with the shit they pull, would be hard-pressed not to think of them as niggers

typical american so fucking selfish MY MONEY ME ME ME

you don't realize money only gets value by the collective work and sharing of the community, the money is printed to be used in the community, not hoarded and selfish ME ME ME MINE MINE owned because as an american you have no sense of community, of living TOGETHER with your fellow humans, or maybe it's in the water that makes you not give a fuck about people in need so you have billionares while people die in waiting rooms and the typical american doesn't give a fuck because he's got money in his bank account and that's all that fucking matters

America is turning into a giant meme, because everything that happens here goes in a circle; and every time someone deviates from a norm they are ridiculed or laughed at, while those same jackasses preach individuality and diversity. People are killing themselves after college or after divorces or after a specific shining moment in their lives because they know things will not get better for them unless they are extremely lucky. People get confused trying to look for the right answer and end up becoming so disenchanted that they start losing hope.

People lost passion. People are dead inside. It's so bad people wish they died in their sleep, because even though our most horrific nightmares come from there, it's still a better alternative to waking up and realizing you still, after all you've been through in your lifetime, will never be as happy as you thought you would be growing up.

What you're seeing is the residual effect of what society is now. You wake up to go to class/go to work and deal with the same shit in hopes you can be a better person tomorrow without losing whatever sanity you have and it's not fucking working for most of us.
>>
>>27168842
>also there's nothing wrong with going to the gym

yes if you go there to improve your health, or you like it. but it seems that a lot of americans go there basically for vanity. They want the 'sickest' most ripped body to show off to everyone how hot and desirable they are. It's self-obsessed and narcissistic. It's not just in america I noticed it in east coast of Australia as well they're all super vain, want to show off their muscles to everyone, and I guess what I dislike about it is the judgment of others based on the way they look. I mean there's nothing really intrinsically wrong with that but I think it's bad when you're thinking that you're better than that guy because your biceps are 1inch wider and she's more valuable than her because her body fat is 5% less than that girl, and I'm better than etc etc. It's just vanity, self-obsession narcissism, and it's shallow. And in the end were all going to be old and then dead so what's it all for? You can't take your muscles to your death, so it's like you're spending all the time at the gym JUST so you can think you're better than others because your muscle tissue is more mass.

Hopefully it's obvious what I'm saying I mean it's a less than majority of people who go to gyms I just noticed that in america this mindset was more prevalent than, at least where I grew up. It was also as prevalent, even more so I'd say in the gold coast in aus.
>>
>>27168948
lol learn some economic theory loser. Why do you think that paper you own has value? It get's value because of what it can buy in an economy. What is an economy? essentially it's the collective work of a particular population. So tell me, did you really earn the value of that money? Was is YOU who made that paper valuable?

These would be rhetorical questions but you idiot american probably can't understand that super advanced concept so I'll answer for you. NO, you did not earn the value of that money.
>>
>>27169313
I agree with you on the narcissism bit, but that's more of a problem with society at large.
Someone who takes care of their body also IS more desirable as a mate, because they show the discipline to take care of themselves and not be controlled by their base instinct.
Lifting also makes you more confident and also increases happiness. There's nothing like the dopamine rush when you set a new PR. Increased strength is also useful in day-to-day shit.

>>27169340
if you knew a damn thing about economic theory, you'd understand that money is merely a placeholder in exchange for actual goods. With money standing in, it means you don't have to determine how many chickens tilling a field will earn you, or some other retarded bullshit. Money creates a standard by which all income is based on, so yes, you did earn the value of the money. Money just represents what your work can buy you.
Why don't you fuck off to r/communism or some other place where they can validate your stupidity?
>>
>>27168563

You're missing the point completely. When you see the parts that look like shit in Eastern Europe, you're looking at the abject failure of communism. When you see America falling apart it's hard to see it as a first world, wealthy nation.
>>
>>27169171

No, it's because your taxes there actually pay for things that make society better as a whole, on top of the superior quality of life.

So he was right in a way.

Also, homosexuality should be a crime. Why not? Is there some God that will stop us from gassing every gay?
>>
>>27161949
>Being a liberal has shit-all to do with any of that. I've held progressive beliefs all my life and I oppose censorship and so-called "hate speech" laws.

And yet you probably still believe in the rights of marginalized minority groups to not be oppressed or harassed.

>>
>>27168170

He may have been a Marxist before, but he eventually rejected Marxism and become highly critical of it, althought he extended the idea of use value and exchange value, to sign value, the status it gives a consumer. Sign value is a huge thing in consumer capitalism, of which America is ground zero, the Platonic ideal of hyper-reality, specifically Las Vegas or Disneyland, fantasy worlds sprung from America's barren desert (although with Disneyland the desert remains, in the desolate parking lot).

Baudrillard didn't hate the United States. He was fascinated by its open spaces and brutal savagery, all while the country thinks of itself as highly civilized.

If you think that's bad in America you should see how it is in Australia.

Not just the gym, but roids are extremely popular. And women are extremely butch and act exactly the same as men, not a single ounce of femininity in them. They are so "blokey" that part of me thinks you'd have to be a bit gay to be attracted to the average Aussie woman.

blame city planning and the department of transportation. before any sort of expansion is made, a road network has to be planned and considered for commercial optimization. in other words, everything is built to get you from your home to the store as fast and as efficient as possible. to give you the maximum surface area of exposure to a variety of commercial businesses. so of course you end up with the suburban and apartment complexes connected by miles of road to a shopping center scheme. municipalities are connected by highways near major commercial centers.

he's right on principle ya'know. very soon this will actually become a social issue. whn popl are able to cosmetically change their body anyway they like or implant robot arms that let them punch through walls or legs that let jump higher and etc. we are going to have a problem because the reason society works is the promise that we all have the same opportunities and that allows us to cooperate. without a tarriff on unfair advantage, why the fuck should continue to put into the system to give other people EVEN MORE of an advantage over me. competition matters and it will eventually need to be regulated.

America is depressing because they're really in denial about how little control they have over their own lives, especially now.

The American Dream is just a dream.
If people really can make it all on their own, why do we have welfare at all? Why is there such a large gap in money between the very top .05% and the other 99.95% of the country.

The super wealthy people either have been born into families where they've had a long time to build up their fortunes (the DuPonts, Roosevelts, Lowells), or the new money (Rockefellers, Carnegies, Trumps) with the tech people making up a newer group.

America works too much for nothing, but they keep trying to tell themselves that they're just not doing something right. This cognitive dissonance is what leads to serious depression.

We all wanna be wealthy, and we see the success stories, and know, subconsciously, that the odds are heavily against us for circumstances beyond our control.

fuck, I'm flying on Adderall and Coffee.

I know how you feel.

From movies, tv shows and even vidya. American suburbs seem to be interesting fun places, especially for growing up.

It's still really interesting to think about how America is built. Especially the suburbs that are usually surrounded by small forests, multiple underpasses and maybe an abandoned building or two.

Seem like a lot of fun to explore with a couple of friends on a sunny summer day.

But of course, it could all just be my imagination fuelled by lies.
