I tried once but found it wholly uninteresting. I seem to fill my time browsing 4chan/text based sites instead.
Used to when i was 12-18
grew out of it and only revisit ones i really liked once in awhile.
Ill never understand the cute girls doing cute things/ moeblob / harem anime appeal and the people who like those animes are the most annoying cunts

If you've been here for more than 10 minutes, you should already know the many, many reasons you shouldn't pursue that, anyway. Moe is a fine method of dealing with that. It seems like when I was younger my taste in anime wasn't very critical so most shows were 'good' in my eyes.

Anyways as I got older I found decent animes few and far inbetween.
Watched Toonami in the late 90s/early 00s when I was a kid, and Eva in middle school, but that was pretty much it until after I got out of high school. That was an especially dark time and I guess cute girls doing cute things was the escape I needed.
Umaru was the last series I watched, it was gun but I think the novelty wore off a while ago.
I've tried watching a bunch but the only titles I like are most things gundam, gunsmith cats and golgo 13

Anime is just animation.
The real difference is that while in the West animation is just for kids and teenagers, animation form Japan spans all genres and is meant for all demographics.
In the west you have family-friendly stuff like Disney, teenage humor like Adult Swim and Family Guy, and that's all there is to it. With anime you have dramas, action, romance, sci-fi, medieval fantasy, horror, porn, literally every movie genre there is.

Yeah, it's better than any other medium IMO. There's a lot of shit but all my favorite shows are anime, there's some pretty good movies too. I actually just watched Spirited Away last night. Still just as good as the first time I watched it.
At times, certain genre conventions get tedious. I can only take one or two episodes a week of iyashikei or romcom. Yet I still watch several anime every season because there are always a few gems that are as good as any movie or book.

Anime is fun for exploiting the cuteness of girls and the childish power fantasies of boys; nothing gets me pumped up like some boss fight in a battle shounen, even at the age of 26, and nothing helps me relax and cool off after a bad day like watching cute girls engage in trite and silly squabbles over misunderstandings that result in zero hurt feelings.
There's plenty of very engaging and entertaining anime shows, but none of it is actually very well written, consistent or genuinely meditative. A lot of this has to do with anime's relation to the manga industry, but even the best that anime has to offer pales miserably compared to the best of western drama.
In short, anime is a lot of fun but not usually well-written or thoughtful. It also has little to no subtlety, even in the "grandest" of its works.

9.9/10 anime have the same shitty tropes in one form or another. Even serious anime have super-deformed scenes and what not, and there doesn't seem to be any show that does away with the silliness entirely. So I think one certainly can.
And many people simply can't take anything Japanese seriously, even if it's just because of the language. Dubs after all account only for a small percentage of shows produced, with the kind of voice acting that doesn't rise above your average children's cartoon, even in anime with serious themes.

I basically only got really into it because I had seen anime around on 4chan a lot for a long time, and ended up with a lot of time on my hands a few years back. I needed something to pass the time, so I started watching lots of anime. Getting close to 1000 different series watched by now.
I'm not gonna beat around the bush, quite a lot of anime are pretty bad. Almost all of them revolve around the same boring cliches that have been done to death and beyond.
Some shows are good, though. Some allow you to forget this dreadful existence for a while. A few even give you something to look forward to each week, which is a lot better than the usual nothing.
In general - Anime, as well as manga and LNs, VNs and the like, are good things to pass the time with.
If you're looking for a way to kill time and potentially have fun doing so, anime is worth a try.
If you want to experience an amazing, compelling, objectively brilliant piece of fiction, the list of anime to watch gets considerably smaller.

I don't like American TV where everything has 200 40 minute episodes plus a bunch of dumb movie length specials.
I can't get into anime, the artstyle is so cheap-looking and obviously on a tiny budget, the voice acting so annoying, the plotting is always the same few tropes and there is this irritating cultural divide where everyone talks in cheesy metaphors

Yes, I like anime a ton. I love animation, and anime fills my desire to see creative, talented people utilizing it. Theres a ton of great shows out there and tits worth trying to find more of them.
Of course, I love anime for other reasons as well. A show doesn't have to be filled with utter excellence for me to like it, it can be stupid, trashy good ass fun if it actually works. One of my favorite anime is fucking Symphogear, a show about magic girls who sing while beating the fuck out of aliens, one of which literally just punches the fuck out of them. Its cheesy, its hilarious, and its not by any means "art" but damn is it a fucking blast to watch and not something you could quite find anywhere else.

Anime is just like any other sort of media. Nothing you watch is going to be able to codify the whole mess of the stuff. I personally enjoy anime, but consider giving it a second shot with series and genres outside of your initial viewing.
I watched a reasonable amount of anime when I was younger and I'm thoroughly convinced it made me more autistic. The characters all act in extremely unrealistic ways and if you watch it enough it'll steer your behaviour in the wrong direction. An extreme example would be that kid who wanted to act out some narutard trick and suffocated to deatch in a sandpit.

I enjoy anime personally, but I completely don't understand the people who think anime is actually good or deep or whatever.
I just watch it for the gratuitous violence and anime girls, since it gives me some sort of escape from my shitty life.
I don't mind the tropes or bad writing, because if you take it seriously and compare it to other TV and film, then you kill the fun for yourself.
Anime is great if you take it for what it is, stupid entertainment, and try not to make it out to be anything more.
