DOTA2 was too snowbally, especially in soloQ, you could solo carry a game, and that isn't good. Once I hit around 5.5k teams started to work together, but if you can't hit 5k you're just a pleb.
Heroes is the opposite end, everything is team based, it's honestly nice to see and play, it's how a team game should be. Supports feel like more then ward bots, genuine strategies based around soaking, camps. Large amount of viable picks even at higher ranks.
League is a happy medium. You can be 10-0 and have your team throw and lose.
Imo in terms of skill needed by the team it's HOTS>LoL>DOTA2

I disagree because it's not a 0 sum game. Tennis/squash/golf exists despite the popularity of baseball, soccer and basketball. The mistake Blizzard made was not taking SC2 to a freemium model, the playerbase could have been so much bigger if they'd done that from the get go or moved to that model by the release of HOTS (a la Valve going freemium with TF2)

Well since we're talking WoW apparently, my unpopular opinion: Arena is what killed the game. Even moreso than cross-realm everything starting in WLK. Blizz trying to balance arenas while trying to keep abilities either the same or as similar as possible in PvE and PvP had bad consequences for both non-arena PvP and all of PvE, and the game never recovered from it. That's what led to all sorts of homogenization in classes and the game at large.

Raid design had gone to shit by the end of Cata, and they've just accumulated too many races, classes, and abilities over the years.
