I moved to Japan 3 weeks ago.

So far I live alone and know absolutely nobody. My Japanese is horrible so I can't make Japanese speaking friends.

Now I have all weekend alone in Tokyo.
How can I meet some English people here and not just sit alone for eternity? I'l be living here for quite a long time.

What the hell do I do?

Where'd you hear that? I thought you simply needed a college degree to work and live in japan, as an English teacher at least.
>>
>>27076800
Why did you end up moving there? Are you working at all? I would get Rosetta Stone or something, but I bet a lot of Japanese speakers also know English. As for meeting English speakers, try going to common touristy spots or seeing if there's any sort of stuff online about people in the area.

He's either there on a tourist visa or (unlikely) a work visa. For the work visa in almost all cases you do need a work visa. So OP is probably lying on the internet (4chan of all places)

He can not permanently move there unless he has Japanese citizenship. Which for him would be literally impossible. Looks up the requirements to get citizenship.

Yeah, why's that so hard to believe? English is one of the most common languages in the world, many foreigners are also taught English as a second language. I spent time overseas as an American and I found that no matter where I went, you could find a decent few that spoke English.

The Japanese have the lowest level of English proficiency of any developed country. Don't be fooled by all the western writing and English loanwords, they're as insular as Americans and even less likely to know a foreign language.

You're in a massive fucking city. Hang out with other foreigners you meet, or find a Japanese friend who speaks english. Tons of them do in Tokyo. And don't worry. Anything of even slight importance to you is going to be written in both English and Japanese.

Not a way to meet English people but there are organisations (Which I think are free) where you can do in-person language exchange with native Japanese. It's a bit like speed dating but just having a conversation trying to help you out with the language and with fitting in. I can't remember what the official ones are called, but if you're interested just Google "chat cafe tokyo" or "language cafe tokyo", they're the next best thing and might be a good way to make friends with the locals.

He literally cant. His tourist visa will run out soon and he'll have to fly home or get deported.

You can't spur of the moment move Japan. Even for people who have their life handed to them on silver platter. It takes years to learn the language and secure a job that provides enough income over there. Which are just the basic requirements to move over there.
He would also need to give up his countries citizenship because Japan doesn't allow duel citizenship. Which he couldn't do if he didn't learn the language.

>Talking out of your ass with no shame
They just don't want welfare shit.

He can easily move there if he's with a company that has a division in Japan. i.e. bringing value into the country. Or if he's a grad student.

But even if he is just a fucking robot, if he has a high school diploma and the money (and it's really not that expensive tbqh), he can attend a school like http://yosida.com/ , the school itself will sponsor you for a student visa to study Japanese at their school for like 2 years. You can keep it as long as your grades are good and you attend classes, and if you pass EJUA or JLPT N1 and enter college afterwards, you'll be able to stay even longer.

Which surely should be long enough to find yourself a college qt or at least a christmas cake and stay on for the long haul.
>>
>>27077889
And you're just going to believe OP while he provides no info or proof on how he got there, how long he's staying there, and what he's doing there?
You really don't want your fantasy of Japan being the dreamland where everyone bows down to white cock being destroyed?
I'd be happy for OP if he made it there. But unless he provides reasonable evidence that he "moved" there. I believe he's just talking out his ass.
If he did do what you just mentioned he would know some English speaking people. Even if he was a robot.

It's funny how convinced you are that it's so very hard to get to Japan. Are you making excuses for something?

The thing is, I personally know three people who moved there. One for grad school, one for art school, and one with a certain software development company. So from my perspective it isn't rare, it's very easy, and it's quite believable.

Plus, I literally linked you to a web site of a school that will take you and issue you a long-term visa if you just enroll and are accepted. And there are hundreds of schools just like that. It's that simple.

Create a youtube channel and post vlogs about Japan for robots.
Message some jvlogers. They usually hold meetings for foreigners in bars.
Sign yourself for a Japanese course, not individual one, study in group that can show you around if you get to know them.
Install Line, apparently it's very popular in Japan.

What are you even doing there OP? I mean you had some savings and you wanted to go there? Or do you work mobile and you can afford to work from any place?

Dunno yet, I was thinking I can get to planning like a week before... It's a big city, I'm sure there will be something to see every day. Friends who went there already told me about this 2-day pass to many attractions with unlimited transport for like 3000 yen, I will surely use that as much as possible, and take it a bit slower later. Also planned Kyoto and Nara in the days between, and actually found a guy who said he would host me in Kyoto (hope he won't ghost me >.>)

Airbnb was the first thing I checked. I didn't even check the hotels, I definitely couldn't afford that. I want to use the only opportunity in life I will have to go to Japan during cherry blossoms. I'm really lucky I got to go for a student exchange in Korea with most of the stuff paid for me, but all my luck ran out right then. And still, airbnb isn't exactly cheap either. I will probably go for it if I have no other choice, with few nights being homeless to save.

sorry for blogging, but there's not really anyone I could share this with

Do you have the JR pass? Wish I could've gotten that for all the travel I have planned. Gotta stick to the Rapid trains.

Nara/Kyoto are a lot of fun if you like temples. There's definitely a fuckton there.

Also yesss I'm so excited for the hanami. My only hobby is photography, so this will be fun I think.

Capsule hotels are a good shot for absolute cheap places to stay, but you can also stick everything in a coin locker and pass out at a train station salaryman-style :)

Feel free to email me, too, if you have any questions. I'd offer but my dorm room here is about 5 sq meters.

>Do you have the JR pass? Wish I could've gotten that for all the travel I have planned. Gotta stick to the Rapid trains.

I don't plan on moving much, just conquering one city at a time. I'll take a bus to Tokyo to save on sleeping place and transportation (shinkansen is expensive, really), unless hitchhiking would be a viable option, but I guess not because of huge distance and the fact that I'm male (with long blonde hair, so totally different)
I mean it would be a pretty good deal if I wanted to visit like 1 city every day, but I'm not adventurous, I've never travelled in my life alone.

>Nara/Kyoto are a lot of fun if you like temples. There's definitely a fuckton there.

That's exactly what I wanted to see, I'm not coming to party all day.

That's one other option I considered, esp. since I won't be taking much, just one backpack... question though: will I be bothered by the police or something?

>Feel free to email me, too, if you have any questions. I'd offer but my dorm room here is about 5 sq meters.
If you're wondering if it bothers me to sleep in a small space with others - nope, I'm fine with (almost) everything, rape and murder explicitely excluded. But I understand if you'll feel uncomfortable.

Thanks for the advice senpai
hope you have a good life

Thanks, unfortunately not anywhere similar that I can think of right now, but I just have some advice. The thing about Japanese culture that I noticed while I was there is that nobody is going to talk to you unless you put yourself out there. I was traveling with a friend while I was there for the first month and he really just put himself out there, and it opened a lot of doors for us. We met a ton of great people and experience a bunch of awesome things because he would just try to start a conversation with anybody.

After he left I basically closed down and didn't talk to many people and ended up super depressed. Just try talking to anybody with your god awful Japanese. They will be much more receptive to you that way.

If you need a translator use google translate, it's super helpful sometimes.

good luck OP, have fun faggot!

What's your native tongue, English? If there is a university close to where you live, you could easily meet foreigners or Japanese people trying to learn English (/other languages) there. The latter often are extremely passive though, so you'd have to look into language exchange meet-ups and clubs to get to know people.
>>
>>27079593
How long do you expect 50k yen to last? It's a pretty small amount. Might last a week if you stretch it.

If that's your average monthly wage, then you should realize Japan is far more expensive than your home country. Food can be had for decently cheap, but everything else will be expensive, especially transport.
>>
I learned Japanese as a way of staying sane during my NEET period and later ended up living over there for six months. I kinda felt like it was the final test for my Japanese skills, though I suspected I would hate it over there (I was right).

I think you are better of being an idiot who knows zero Japanese but that is stereotypically outgoing and cheerful (the way they imagine most white foreigners are) than being an introvert who is fluent in Japanese. I was the latter and I was miserable over there.

The brief periods that I was around other white people were the most relaxing - it was like the weight of being a foreigner was suddenly lifted and I could just be myself and talk in my native tongue. It was great. I was going to hit up a bar in Shibuya called The Aldgate, cause apparently foreigners went there a lot, but I was broke so I never did it. Plus I just don't like being social, so what would be the point?

I now live back in my home country and just import my Japanese books and shit from Amazon, cause it's waaaay cheaper to spend $100 here and there on shipping than to actually live in Japan. I have a shipment of books coming next week and I am super excited about it.

3 weeks? Seriously? I've lived in Tokyo for 6 years. Have been a NEET for 5 of those years. Have no friends. Speak basic Japanese. Spend most of my days wandering Akiba hoping some qt nerd will take pity upon me. Every English speaking foreigner I have met here has been Normie tier bordering on Chad. Especially the Yanks and Australians.

Tokyo is a lonely city, even for natives. If you're buckling after just three weeks you may want to reconsider living here. I like it here because I'm able to anonymously wallow in my autism without getting randomly attacked by normies and Tyrones. But if you're a normie who craves attention I can see you struggling here tbqh senpai.

As a follow up to what I said here, if anyone like me ends up in Japan and starts getting miserable, here is my advice: Go outside. You don't need to go around people, but just go walk around wherever you are. My best memories of being in Japan are of just walking around the city for hours on end doing nothing in particular. Just drop by a convenience store or a vending machine when you get hungry or thirsty. You can easily get an entire day of decent entertainment for under 1000 yen.

Browsing shops is also pretty entertaining. Really depends on your Japanese ability for some of them, but I loved going to bookstores. I would just wander around browsing books for a few hours each week. The only problem is that a fuckton of Japs like to stand around and just marathon read entire books/series in the store, so you have to navigate through them.

Oh, and in Tokyo some of my favorite places to go were graveyards. They were usually pretty quiet and fairly empty, so you could just wander around and try to convince the graveyard cats to let you pet them. I succeeded a couple times.

I doubt anyone will bother to read this, but whatever, maybe I can help someone like me. I didn't really have hopes or expectations for Japan, so it all turned out okay for me. Hopefully it turns out okay for anyone else who decides to head over their on their own.

Thanks anon, I read your post. I'm going to Kyoto for a year or two in June. I'm pretty introverted (as you'd expect on r9k) so I think your advice will probably really help me. I don't think I'll make a lot (if any) native friends, so I'm hoping going outside and visiting temples and shrines will save me in that regard.

I lived there for two months, ended up hopping girl to girl for a living. If you don't mind being proactive (not Chad, but make an effort to at least search out girls online) and don't mind being used by them, then it's not the worst way to survive. This is assuming white and not ass ugly.
