I'm a straight male, and nothing grosses me out anymore. I've seen comical amounts of gore, babies being abused, shit on, all the stuff you'll be exposed to if you browse 4chan long enough. The only thing that actually makes me a little nauseous is gay sex.

It doesn't? It's not a good idea to bareback because you really have no way of knowing your partner's HIV status. Just use condoms and you're fine.

Seconded. I don't think people are generally aware of how effective antiretrovirals are today.
When someone is infected with HIV, the cells hide in the body and lie dormant for years. Then at some point they start attacking the body's immune system to prevent the body from resisting the HIV cells in the first place.
What antiretrovirals do is keep HIV cells from replicating, so they lie dormant theoretically forever, or at least the course of the person's natural lifespan. While a person is taking antiretrovirals, the presence of HIV in their blood becomes undetectable. In theory, this means they can't transmit HIV to anybody else, but they should nonetheless continue to use protection anyway.
The problem with these drugs is that they're both ridiculously expensive, and they have some nasty side effects. So it's not like living with HIV is a cakewalk even if you are taking medication to keep it under control.
If you DON'T take medication, then the HIV might progress to AIDS within the next decade, or possibly sooner or later than that.
