You're doing a big mistake right there. You burn way more calories lifting weights, so that's the biggest bang for your buck right there. Cardio is good if you have extra time, doesn't hurt throwing it in your routine. But if you have time constraints and want to maximize then start lifting.
Lifting doesn't automatically make you beefy and big, that's all about dieting really. If you don't increase your calorie intake, lifting will get you lean faster than cardio.
