Job order costing is stuff like ordering a custom high end sports car. You tailor the car to exactly what you want, and for that purpose, it is completely unique and made for you. Every sports car that the company custom makes is unique to the job. Therefore, it is job order costing.
Process costing is like making doritos. Every bag is the same. You do the same thing for every bag. Each bag of the same flavor is literally the same.

Because your degree assumes you will one day shitpost your way into management, and managers need to understand how their financial information is recorded. It is important, but accounting is super gay and complicated, which only serves to benefit big companies that can shell out the big bucks to avoid paying for shit that they probably should.

Remember that for entries, each transaction effects your ability to pay or be paid (cash/accounts payable/accounts recievable), and also effects what you own, what you owe, or what your business retains. (everything else).
It gets more complicated then that but if you keep that in mind, basic accounting should be manageable.
