I leaned instruments from a young age and studied music theory along with them. It is true that classically trained artists, composers, aesthetic philosophers etc can attempt to explain why people enjoy a certain piece of music or art. This relies on the intuitive knowledge of what is good and what is bad on the part of the listener. A person will instinctively know that a Bach fugue or a Giotto painting is better than noise or "a can of shit". While art is a subjective experience, it is not true to then say that there are no objective standards that determine good music from bad music.

You don't need to quantify art to understand it, just like you don't need to quantify ethics to talk about it. Classical music doesn't get a free pass that other art forms are not privy to. Often there is very little actually being expressed other than a fascination with polyrhythms and infinite space. A one trick pony dressed up with extraneous narratives and pastiche, exploding into decadence in the 19th century because no good new ideas could be thought of in it. Pepper on some overconvoluted and inflated music "theory" so music can try to catch up with continental philosophy. Classical is pretty much the worst and most elitist art form that everyone pretty much just laughs at. It's even worse and more antiquated than romantic poetry.
