What are some indications that someone you know/know of goes on 4chan? Do you try to speak to them since you have something in common?
Phone backgrounds/lock screens are the biggest tell imo.
I usually avoid them because they're fucked in one way or another. All my "friends" are normies who don't use 4chan, they all know I'm fucked and sometimes I show them r9k and d for keks, the reactions are of disbelief and it usually leads to interesting conversation.

I think you are right.
In class I'll overhear someone meme'ing or otherwise specifically speaking of a board they visit. The thing is I would never approach these people because, and this is anecdotal, something is usually fucked about them. Not in anyway edgy but more of a awkward and angry sort of way.

I don't agree. I think there are people who are very good at feigning normality or hiding their problem but at the end of the day we're all here for essentially the same reason. Be it introversion, the need for companionship, fear or more simple things like social anxiety.
However I don't believe this true for women, I don't consider myself a sexist but I firmly believe any female who regularly uses 4chan has problems far outweighing the average male 4channer.
I don't really know of any... only in high school did anyone talk about it, and that was 1 of freinds who showed other friends when we were at his, another guy was said something like about "mudkips" or something which made me cringe. I think they found out around the time of project chanology and all the news coverage about 4chan around 2007-2008
only time I've ever thought someone did is when they talk about trump since we're not from america so there's really no reason someone here would follow american politics too much, let alone follow the republican primary nominations. maybe people talk about on facebook or something
I always hide 4chan like it's porn. when people bring up something like 4chan or some other 'meme' shit I just act like I don't know about it. people like I instantly imagine posters who make thread screencaps with the stupid reaction images in them and sit in roll/get threads.
I'd say they moved to reddit though, and I know other people who visit/talk about reddit.
Most of the time if I see something on here that won't reveal 'powerlevel' too much I'll just say I saw it on reddit
At my university there is this guy who acts extremely anxious and spills his spaghetti constantly aswell as spouting pseudo-intellectual rhetoric in front of the entire class regularly. He would get out of conversations by saying "HAVE TO GO, I NEED POTASSIUM " and run through the halls like a child (hes 32). I was sure that he browses 4chan so when I was in a group with him one time and I asked him if he used 4chan and he told me "no I use reddit"

We lost touch but the chan in common thing was an instant bond. I disagree about avoiding other channers
I knew a lot of people at university who were NMH fans. I think that kind of counts as revealing your power level.

There's just a number of albums that guarantee someone has visited /mu/. Chiefly ITAOTS, Loveless, In the Court of the Crimson King, MBDTF and Death Grips in general.
There's lots of non-anons that listen to these, but I've never met someone who listens to them all that didn't use 4chan.

Never actually met anyone who does use 4chan really, My town is kind of backward and literally everyone I have met here just shares shit on facebook.
