Total War has some good stuff. AoE, Men of War can be depending on your taste. Grand Ages Rome doesn't get enough love. Hegemony is a good fairly new franchise. I also personally like WH40K Dawn of War series.
That said, I prefer Grand Strategy games.

3d fighters are inherently bad
doa 2 is pretty much the only fun onesf4 has plenty of tools to deal with fireballs, every character can focus and most characters either have their own fireballs or attacks that break through fireballs

Retro stuff, mainly JRPGs right now as inspiration for the RPG that I'm making. All time favorites are the N64 Zeldas, Super Mario 64, Chrono Trigger, and Super Metroid. Modern AAA games don't really capture my attention the way older games do. I haven't really looked into the indie scene at all but it's kind of irrelevant considering there's still a ton of retro games I haven't played yet. Undertale sounded cool when I first heard about it but it kind of just seems like a meme to me now, plus the fanbase is pretty autistic.

Don't listen to this guy, the second generation is very well done. The first aged like milk but the second has two whole regions to explore, more pokemon, berries, lots of improved combat elements, amazing music and it's cute as fuck. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are soulless, they may have more features and more modern graphics but the game is spoonfed to you and there is absolutely no challenge whatsoever. Not to say that all Pokemon games aren't easy, but they've gotten progressively worse as time has gone on.

I put like 30 hours into Factorio this last week. The game is nothing but making production lines and trying to make your shit run more efficiently, and I love it. I now have all the evidence I need that I am autistic.

Dude I feel you but navigating the map in second gen is clunky as fuck. Combat improvements are good but the game intentionally slows progression to compensate for the extra area. You end up having to grind pretty hard especially if you aren't super familiar with the Pokemon and their types

How the hell do people enjoy minecraft? Like, the first 10 minutes are interesting as you try to survive, but everything else is just boring. If you want to build something nice enjoy mining for 100 hours so you can get your stone. Multiplayer servers are filled with 12 year olds and you have to "donate" for anything cool.

I really do believe this is the case. At least it is with me. I never talk to any randoms in any game I play, and it makes the games feel even more lonely than a single player game.

Talking to people seems kind of pointless now since I'll never see them again. Jump into raid finder and be done with it in an hour. Its gotten to the point where I don't even want to talk to people in games like DoTA other than the occasional strategy crap.
In the "ye old days" there were very few alts because leveling was hard and people stayed on their server forever. Now you have like every class at cap on 6 different servers all linked together.

Oh, yeah, you're absolutely right. Guilds used to actually matter back in the day because you needed that group of people around to do things, and now you don't.
I recently began playing Albion Online in the closed beta and it was actually really fun for a bit. It has the whole "sandbox" thing going for it, so if they don't fuck it up it could potentially be a good game for bringing back that playstyle.
Though I do admit that I hate the PVP of sandbox MMOs, because they are very often zergfests.

Its kind of sandbox-ish. There is no hard level cap and you get skill points to get all the spells/skills you want so you kind of make your own rotation. The end game consists of crafting, farming, GvG combat and a couple world bosses.
It sounds good on paper until you realize the skills will always have an optimal one to get, the GvG and bosses are all zergfests, and the crafting is a weird facebook game.
If you were really into runescape I guess you would prob like the game but its not exactly for people into normal MMOs.
