From an experience unless you post something provocative people won't care much about profiles picture. And posting pic just to get likes won't get you anything but false satisfaction that thing you do matter at the end.
The best solution would be to stop being self conscious about what people do online has everybody has their insecurity perk at one point.

Made a new Facebook account a year later and added people again except for people I couldn't remember.
