One of my favourite bands is playing within walking distance of my house, so naturally I dove in and bought a ticket.
Now that the excitement has worn away a little, I can't help but feel like that was a bad idea. Going to a gig by myself seems like it would be terrifying. What if they have a no-singles policy?
/r9k/ , tell me about your experiences with live performances. Any advice with how to handle heading somewhere by yourself?

Take a deep breath and relax.
Concerts don't have no-singles policies. I know because I've been to literally hundreds of metal shows around my local area.
They're your favorite band. They WILL be good. You just have to work up the courage to go and enjoy the show.
If you need to, take some Klonopin or Xanex before the show to curb your anxiety. Being in large groups can be stressful. You have to endure to it enjoy the show.
Its going to be tough, and its going to be stressful, but if you endure it you'll enjoy the night.

You'll be fine. This isn't like going out drinking by yourself where the whole idea is to socialise with people. It's going to be loud, there's going to be probably so many people there that you'll just blend into the background. Everyone is going to be paying attention to the band. All you have to do is stand there and listen to the music. And there won't be a no singles policy, that's absurd. Enjoy yourself, maybe a drink a little to calm your nerves.

I went to see one of my fav bands last month alone, it was a small gig with less than 50 people there but I throughly enjoyed it. A qt metal grill even kept looking at me and smiling but i wasn't sure if she thought i was cute or she has never seen an asian at a metal gig before.

You must've gotten lucky then coz when I was at school the guys I hung out with got bullied due to their taste in music.
I went to a catholic all boys school so days which we were allowed to wear normal clothes and not our uniform they'd have the band t shirts and shit and they instantly assumed they were "emos". I still hung out with them since they were all my mates since we started school.
The Chads bullied them coz they were "emos" but I was spared since I was kinda athletic and good at sports. They'd always ask me "Why do you hang out with those emo faggots" though.
I hung out with them because they were my friends not just because we had similar taste in music.

I go to concerts alone all the time, it's actually my preferred way of going to shows. I can dance and not worry about anybody else around me. Nobody will even care to notice that you are there alone. Once the crowd fills in everyone is in their own world anyway. Someone may try to talk to you, but if you don't talk to anyone it's likely that noone will talk to you at all.
