I think the real reason this is a meme is that women hobbies aren't out in public and don't encourage socializing as much, compared to men's hobbies.
For example, sports fans will meet up at a bar or stadium to watch or match, or become friends with their team mates if they play in a team. Men interested in outdoor hobbies like fishing or hunting are probably going to share the experience with their friends or meet others while out hiking. Even anime nerds and gamers will discuss their fandom online or meet similar minded people at conventions.

I've always enjoyed browsing /diy/ occasionally to look into some of the neat things people do.
Is it bad that I want to encourage girls for their cute little arts and crafts attempts at "hobbies", even though objectively I know they're pathetic and that I'm holding them to ridiculously low standards?

I find le reddit extremely hypocritical in this regard as they have not counted any other hobbies but instead add every day to day activity (as you have) to a list and call them hobbies.
I would like to point out why lots of these womens hobbies are bullshit, first of all you're again implying that all women do all of these hobbies and aren't just a few liberals bullshitting and circle jerking each other on leddit, also;

Most women don't do anything interesting. They just talk about what they did to their hair, tweet things about their friends, listen to some music, and that's all. Counting make-up as a hobby is bullshit, unless you actually try new make ups or do something cool and actually creative like monster make up, you're just painting your face the same way every day. It's like saying that you're an architect when you only put bricks all day. I know very few women that sew or knit, but that's actually a hobby. With cooking, we have the same criteria than make up, making noodles isn't a hobby, and sadly I know even less women that cook than women that sew. In fact, I know more men that cook than women that cook.
To be fair, I wouldn't in a million years expect a woman to like anime or videogames, but in exchange at least I would like to not be despised by women for liking those things, which tends to happen a lot.
