Any of you guys record what you play? Post it here. I'd like to listen to it.
I'll share mine too, but only if someone actually cares to hear it.
>>
What do you play OP?
>>
>>26945509
Guitar. Mostly electric, but sometimes I play acoustic as well.
>>
>>26945477
I play guitar but I'm relatively mediocre at it, I can sing quite well though.
>>
>>26945477
I'd crank my bagpipes out for you but my roomates are all fast asleep
>>
>>26945706
I respect people who can sing. It's takes more skill than others realize. Your vocal chords are being used as a built-in instrument, which is fucking cool.

Any recordings of you singing and/or playing? That's what I'm really interested in.
>>
>>26945804
That's a damn shame. (About your roommates).

How do you even learn the bagpipes?
>>
>>26945832
You learn the scale and tunes on a small instrument called a chanter. Then finaly you buy a set of pipes and just keep practicing. They're fun as hell but I haven't being playing them as often as I should be.

Bands and highland games are really fun if you're into competing and getting drunk afterwards
>>
I've played piano for like 14 years now
>>

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0SbXwNoP9m5

I posted in a thread about this kind of stuff last night and i seemed to get a pretty good response. I do have a really bad cold right now so my voice is raspy as fuck though
>>
>>26946240
Holy shit. Is that really you?

I had no idea someone with this kind of talent would be on /r9k/ of all places. Seriously. Well done, man!
>>
>>26946320
Yeah it is. t-thanks senpai
>>
>>26946240
>I struggle to look into your eyes.

Kek, turbo autism.
Still, it's ok, I think you could get laid with this jam anon.

>>26945477
I don't have any recordings of me playing random covers, but then again, instruments give me serious boredom. My only "analogic" instrument is my voice.
>>
https://soundcloud.com/mightyravendark/horrible

This is me playing drums. The sound quality is fuck horrible though because I recorded it through my built in laptop microphone.
>>
>>26946389
Well i actually wrote it about the one and only time i was with a woman and i couldn't get it up because i was too drunk. normie get out reee ect

>>
>>26946410
It's cool, man. Not everyone has a whole studio to themselves whenever they record. I record with my phone's voice recorder.
>>
I play bass and write some lyrics. Bet I could produce some good shit with a drummer

>pic of my guitars is too big for filesize
Oh well
>>
>>26946690
Get a drum machine in the meantime, it's not ideal but it helps fill out your sound a lot more
>>
Ok, people, it's 7:14 AM and I'm fucking tired, so I'm going to sleep. I will listen to anything you guys post when I wake up. Even if this thread gets archived.
So yeah, just discuss amongst yourselves and whatever.

If somebody asks, here is some crappy solo jams I did. (And named).
Again, these are improvisational jams, so excuse any mediocrity

I make electronic music on my laptop. Heavily invested in Sound Design.

Inspired by Trent Reznor, Damon Albarn and Boards Of Canada. Throwing in a garage influence, though. I'd link if I had anything of worth on my Soundcloud.

I play Guitar, Harmonica and melodica.

Keyboards too, but I'm naff.
>>
>>26946240
Make album now. Upload to bandcamp. Post here.
>>
>>26946414
You can play entry level guitar and have a good singing voice. Also, capable enough to write a song so, I never even assumed you were a 100% robot.

Have you thought about experimenting with DAWs? Maybe trying to get into a band?

>>26946997
Any links?
>>
>>26947038
In an ideal world i'd like to get a band together, like i say my guitar abilities aren't great so i'd like to be backed by better musicians.

>>26947012
i've probably got enough songs to actually make an album now tbf, whether anyone would like it is another matter.
>>
>>26947038
I'll have to upload something to my Soundcloud.

I've not even mixed it down yet. But hold up, and I'll get uploading.

Instruments I play very well:

Bass trombone, tenor trombone, euphonium, baritone, viola, and violin.

Instruments I can play well:

Trumpet, cornet, guitar, (electric and acoustic) drums, and bass guitar.

Instruments I can play:

Accordion, recorder, and clarinet.
>>
>>26947333
Pretty decent effort desu, got any recordings?
>>
>>26945477
Nice dubs

Classical guitar. I also play electric and a bit of bass. I've been doing some recordings of improvs on random boards for the last couple of days. Here's one I just did for this

>>26946570
Nice tone. I liked this one better than the poppunk one.

I'm gonna improvise another one and come here again to keep checking the thread
>>

Like it, wish I had as much ability on guitar
>>
>>26946939
The ideas sound good, but they get monotonous when you repeat them that much without variation or something, try improvise a couple more of riffs within your improvisation sessions and then rotate between them.

>>26947333
Nice 3trips. I'm guessing you like Gentle Giant and Mike Oldfield :O

Huh, I thought more people had uploaded stuff. Well, I did another quick improv, didn't came out as I wanted, I need more skills!

>>
>>26947507
Thanks! Years and years of practice, friend. And yet I'm still far away from the skills I wish I had, damn
>>
>>26946909
Any idea if someone's gonna notice the lack of real drums in a song?
>>
>>26947822
If you really can't find a drummer you'll just have to put up with a drum machine. I don't know really there's always session musicians but most don't come cheap

I'm self taught, so yeah. Though having a teacher would be better.

Just YouTube tutorials for songs you like, that's usually a good place to start.

The first song I learned to play was 'Closing Time' by Semisonic.
>>

Here's a song I'm writing, still pretty early in its development but its something.

>Tfw I have all the skills and equipment to be a one man band

>Recording by myself is a god awful, frustrating experience and I will never do it

The only thing holding me back from being a rock star is lack of friends.
>>
>>26949296
What kind of music you play?
>>
>>26949299

Rock music I guess somewhere in the punk/metal/grunge variety. I tried to write metal back when I did have a band but it came out like punk music and I just rolled with it because I can't force out shit that isn't what I make naturally. I've never met a drummer or bassist better than me, I sing okay and the guitar in the music I play is generally pretty easy so I can get by on that. I have recorded before in the past and it just fucking sucks, even doing something easy by myself is a complete pain in the ass and isn't fun at all. If I'm going to play music alone then I'll just play it, recording and making a song is just a big hassle that nobody else would even listen to anyways. It's a shame, I've wanted to be a rockstar for like 12 years now and I'm just finally starting to give up, I've had the skills and drive to do it for years but I've never had bandmates outside of one small period of time for like a month. That didn't work out.
>>
>>26949361
did it ever occur to you that striving to be a "rockstar" is kind of a silly thing to do?
>>
>>26949596

Yeah, but who cares. It's what I want to do and I have a good time doing it. I never PLANNED on doing it exclusively because that would require some extraordinary luck, so I'm still getting a good education and stuff to have a more "realistic" future. Nothing wrong with having dreams though, right?

I don't suppose you guys like melodic death metal? Here's an instrumental cover I recorded of a TBDM song, "Raped In Hatred By Vines Of Thorn." I transcribed the drums to midi and recorded the bass and guitar parts

post-grunge, eh? I mostly listen to garage rock but I don't look to imitate anything really, just sorta find a sound I like in my head, you know?
>>

Oh, fuck yeah. Garage rock. I see it now.

I kind of play garage rock type stuff, but I tune to C standard and use a fuzz pedal.
>>

Yeah garage, I play/record in my bedroom though, usually use a delay pedal though to get a echoing effect since I haven't bought a reverb pedal yet.

I like this a lot, it vaguely reminds me of The Shins.

I think the vocal melody is good, but it's the static root note in the chord progression that makes it feel a bit bland. I think something as simple as throwing a Bb major in right before the progression turns around could add more of a feeling of movement to it

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try something like that out. I'm playing in an alternate tuning for that song so I'm not too clear on all the chord shapes and whatnot, mostly just figure it out by ear, but I'll definitely mess with it a bit.

>>26961201
Yes.
As long as you start getting proper training.

You can do everything.
You can walk into the vampire night club and kill every last sick, night prowling freak. Be the day walker. Be the blade.
>>
>>26961201
Yes, of course it's possible. But it takes a shit ton of dedication and effort. The biggest part is you have to be okay with sucking hard at first. Most people give up when they figure out they're not going to get good in 3 weeks

I just realized I have now started two replies with "thanks man". I swear I'm not an android, I can say "thanks dude" as well.
>>
>>26961201
Its better to take lessons. Alot of what I learned on the internet only worsened my technique. instructors can point out flaws in how you hold/play your instrument. It took me a while to un-fuck my guitar skills. even longer on piano.
>>
>>26961201
think of it like learning a language

easy when you're young, difficult when you get older. it's kind of like that. you can learn to speak Russian at your age, but you'll never have an authentic Russian accent.

if this idea dissuades you then it might not be for you, most people learn an instrument because they are obsessed with it in some way and want to get better. if that thirst isn't there you might just end up spending money and never play it

These threads always make me irrationally angry, and I'm not really sure why. I guess it's because of the unconditional support you guys give eachother, and that a guy who started playing 2 weeks ago will get the same
appraisal as a guy who's been learning reclusive for 3 years. I don't care what you say, if you're posting your shit after 4 months of practice you're overtly pretentious, and probably a normie desu

>>
>>26964963

Oh, hey cool. I'm 18 too. But only been playing for 2 years.

>I always valued songwriting and experimentation over technical ability.

A good ideal, but technical ability can really clarify your playing. You even heard a guitar player just seriously shredding and saying "Fuck, that sounds amazing!"

That's technical ability at work right there, and those dudes know how to use.
Don't knock down technical playing, dude! Don't close your mind to anything involving music. Don't settle for one genre and say "I'll just stick to rock", y'know. It's good to be open minded about music.

>You ever heard a guitar player just seriously shredding and saying "Fuck, that sounds amazing!"

Oh yes and it's sure impressive. I'm just kind of an artsy-fartsy "muh experimentation" type. Most of the guitar work in the music I listen to isn't technical and if anything, it's far from it.

Regardless, I've still tried to learn more advanced techniques like tapping and sweep picking, but I'm still pretty rough.

By the way, in Ephemeral (part 1), I like the major seventh chords you were using at certain points. I abuse those chords so much. I love 'em.
