You're right, I guess I was just speaking in OP's terms. I am actually half black and middle class, so I'm well aware that not all black people are poor or unintelligent. My own mother (black) taught me to be proud of my race but also not to try and be one of the "cool black kids."
But, yeah, the point I was making is based on the fact that I do know many smart poor young black people, but without any real academic opportunities that essentially just presents itself as intangible street-smarts, or just a sharp understanding of the world and their position in it.
