NOPE

NO DRUGS
NO ALCOHOL
NO CIGARETTES
>>
>>26853745
Hahaha, you're not wrong. Wish it was that easy tho.
>>
>>26853833
How hard is it really? I was addicted to candy and I still am. But what I did is to avoid buying them. Obiously alcohol =/= candy, but is it really hard to refrain from buying it?
>>
im not drunk af but i am drunk wassup faM
>>
>>26853863
Alcohol is physically addictive. It's a GABA agonist that causes pain and seizures (which can kill) in addicts when they stop it.

It's entirely different from trying to stop eating candy.
>>
>>26853863

Please use your head. If so much people just can't stop drinking this is because it's hard to stop. I don't even drink but I understand that
>>
>>26853863
Alcoholism is something like mental acrobatics...

So, I'm capable of buying a liter of vodka and drinking it in one day. Most of the times that I've bought a liter of vodka, I've drank it in one day. But, every time I consider buying a liter of vodka, I tell myself that I won't just drink it all, I'll savor it, have maybe two drinks, I'll unwind but not get shitty, etc, etc. And wouldn't you know, I drink it all in one day and feel like shit for the next two.

I tell myself that it won't be that way, that I won't do that again. But I do almost every time.
>>
>>26853759
I only smoke but that too only 3 to 4 ciggies a day, drugs and alcohol make me ultra suicidal and paranoid af

my gf passed out; told me to wake her up at 2 to drink more

i might; might just play some retro vidya and say fuck her
>>

he meant to say antagonist
>>

No, I meant what I said. Alcohol is not a GABA antagonist.

>An agonist is a chemical that binds to a receptor and activates the receptor to produce a biological response.
>>
I don't think I'm an alcoholic. But it's old crow tonight. I usually drink alone.

Slept with my new gf last night and had nightmares again, always seems to happen at the beginning of a new relationship. Last night it was an asteroid hitting the earth, and everyone I knew was killing themselves before the atmosphere cooked off or something. Thought of telling my girl in the morning but didn't want her to think I'm crazy.

It seems to me like people get addicted to it, if they are predisposed to be alcoholic. If not what made you guys drink alcohol? Was it peer pressure?
>>
>>26854065

I started because my parents drink, I keep doing it because I'm fucking stupid
>>
>>26854065
I'm the first guy you quoted.
I'm not and never have been addicted to alcohol. I just understand how chemicals work.

I drink maybe once a year. I'm physically addicted to opioids, though.
>>
>>26854095

When I went to rehab the opiate guys usually had what looked like a more painful withdrawal, but less deadly obviously without anti seizure medicine

Good for you, but you are obviously not an addict in the sense of you losing control over your drinking habits. So my question was not directed towards you.

>>26854093
>I started because my parents drink
What does that even mean? Negative habits in my family made me adopt healthier alternatives. Family doesn't seem to be the cause of addiction.
>>
>>26854065
Curiosity. Had my first drink at 15 maybe. Stole it out of mom's liquor cabinet, had a rum and coke. My friends when I was younger always pegged me as the alcoholic, I'm sure I have some kind of predisposition.

Over the years and through college I've continually drank more and more. Started drinking in the morning, started drinking for days at a time. Experienced withdrawal. Shits crazy, you drink hard spirits for 4-5 days in a row and then go through the DTs and it's kind of a trip. You can close your eyes and it's like your eyes are still open.

I'm 26 now, still occasionally fuck up and drink for a few days at a time. I'm mostly good. Try to please myself with beer, but can still kick back a case a night.
>>
>>26854160

I had my first drink when I was around 12, I probably would have drank anyway but that's how it started, not everyone learns from their parents mistakes
>>
>>26854125
You're exactly correct. Alcohol withdrawals are terrible. They're less painful than opioid withdrawals but more dangerous because of seizures.
Alcoholics in recovery are always put on benzos and stepped down. They usually have their symptoms handled very well.

Opiate addicts can get something for their withdrawals but it's very common for some rehabs to not give them anything.

Opiate withdrawal is very painful. It causes hot and cold flashes constantly, restless leg syndrome (your legs ache if they're not in constant motion), your bones, muscles, joints, head all hurt terribly. You're nauseated and vomiting constantly and you get diarrhea and intestinal pain as well as many other symptoms.
Opiate withdrawals also feel more painful then they should because it's a natural response for the brain to not produce as many endorphins when you're an opiate addict. This causes pain sensations to feel more intense than they normally do.
>>
>>26854065
>peer pressure

That's the most idiotic thing I have read all day. You sound underaged.

I bet you are also a vegan. And gay. And fat.

>Good for you, but you are obviously not an addict in the sense of you losing control over your drinking habits. So my question was not directed towards you.
You quoted me so I answered you. If your question was not directed at me then you should not have quoted my post.
>>
found it hard to score at parties and stuff, then i started drinking around late 15yo and suddenly ez
>>
12th day sober now. The last time I had a few drinks, it was the usual. A few beers at the pub with friends. Then more drinks at home until I pass out. However the day after that I had one of the worst hangovers ever and felt more shitty than ever before.

That must have scared me a bit because I still don't have the slightest craving to drink. Plus I was sick with the flu for a few days, so that helped in not wanting to drink.
>>
>>26854179
Would you say you had no control over it?

>not everyone learns from their parents mistakes
I am not implying that addicts don't know the health issues related to alcoholism.

>>26854200
My mistake. Thought you were an addict so I replied to your post.
>>
>>26854187
Alcohol withdrawal can be nuts. I've gone through some solid DTs at least half a dozen times. Blood pressure and pulse just rocket up, feelings of impending doom, hallucinations and nightmares (when you can sleep), shakes so bad you can't feed yourself... It's kind of scary. I've had enough experience with hallucinogens that I fare the psychological aspects fairly well, but it is major taxing on your body. I can imagine that if you continually pour a depressant into you central nervous system, at some point when you remove that depressant it will cause your CNS to fire up. Takes 3 days minimum to get back to an almost normal, if you can get yourself to eat and sleep.
>>
>>26854257

Did your "hangover" last for three days, include flash sweats vivid dreams and shaking?
>>
ok you guys i didnt come into this thread tryijng to talk abotu alcoholism and sobriety im drunk just trying to talk about drunk shit wtf is wrong with you all

what is the science behind hangovers, i have drank to the point of throwing up many times but have never had a hangover
>>

>>
>tfw can only feel when i'm drunk
>>
>>26854272
There's no reason you should be going into DT.
DT is very dangerous and is easy to manage with benzodiazepines.
If your addiction is so bad you're going into DT's without meaning to you can talk to a doctor and get benzodiazepines to manage the symptoms.
>>26854271
>My mistake. Thought you were an addict so I replied to your post.
No worries, mate.
>>
>>26854271

Honestly it's probably because of my depression, I wasn't an alcoholic the first time I drank,it slowly developed over time
>>
>>26854319
Haven't been to a doctor in maybe ten years. I'm familiar with the fact that alcohol withdrawal can be combated with benzos, but I've never had them. I've only thought once that maybe I should get medical help when going through withdrawal. I'm also scared to be forever labeled an alcoholic, as it might influence health/life insurance and other things.

>>
>>26854304
There's a lot we know about hangovers. In general woman and older people are more prone to get them and people who drink dark liquor tend to have hangovers at a higher rate than people who don't.
Hangovers are caused by two major factors, dehydration and a slightly toxic metabolite of alcohol called acetaldehyde.
You can mitigate the hangover effects from dehydration by drinking water and electrolytes before sleep. Acetaldehyde affects all people differently. Some people will always feel sick with that chemical present in their blood. There's not really much you can due to prevent the hangover effects from acetaldehyde besides not drinking.
>>
Too many beers here and there to count.

Convinced myself I needed it to be "creative".

Convinced myself I wasn't drinking liquor so I'm not a dependent.

Now I attribute all positive actions I take to being a little drunk.

It's the sandtrap. Not deep, just here, comfortable, killing myself.

basically when you drink, you do a lot of shit to your brain etc... and one of it is your liver releasing some enyzme, and when tat leaves, and the alcohol is processed it has some toxin, that causes you to feel utter shit. Look it up on youtube, explaisn it well, i gave what I took from wathcing it like 1 year ago.

>>26854365
Your doctor cannot tell your insurance anything without your permission.
If you seek help for alcohol addiction it will not get back to your insurance unless they have to give approval for the medication or for the doctor visit.
You can avoid them knowing the reason for the visit if you see your normal doctor (not an addiction specialist) and pay for your script with cash and say you have no insurance. Although, you might not have to do that. The insurance does not know the reason you're given benzodiazepines unless they need to approve some paperwork related to addiction.

It's very easy to see a doctor for help and not have your insurance find out about it.

Also, if you don't pay for your insurance (for example if you're on your parents insurance or you're on state insurance) then they cannot raise your rates due to the abuse. This last piece may vary from state to state, but this is the case for the state I live in.

In a day, perhaps, not 2 weeks. thats not even enough to get drunk. Not an alcoholic if you're just drinking alcohol, like saying you're a meth addict if you only smoke abit to get a buzz and not to get fucked up.
ones functional, other is doing it to the extreme.
>>
>>26854486
I've never gotten a hangover though and I've been taking like 7shots a night for the past month. I always make sure to stay extra hydrated though and I go running every day so thats probably why I don't get em.
>>
>>26854391

I honestly can't even tell you that I feel better drinking than during long periods of sobriety, I usually feel better after a week of being sober, but alcohol is like a siren

how about longevity in terms of liver function if I were to keep up this style of drinking? Will it all eventually all catch up in my 40s and wipe me out?

All you fuckers need to start exercising and eating healthy it aint just the alcohol making you feel like shit it's a multitude of things. Ever since I started exercising daily I've become immune to all the negatives from alcohol I could drink a 5th of vodka and wake up the next day feeling like a million bucks because every time I run my brain creates new neural connections and gets all the blood flowing to my organs. I remember when I used to be like all of you I thought alcoholism was real and quitting alcohol would be impossible until I started doing the exercise, healthy eating, taking multi vitamin, fish oil, and vitamin D's everyday.

Sure, if you quit drinking 100% it might cause some scars on your liver to disappear over time but there is irreversible damage done to the organ.

Literally this, my uncle drank for decades and what eventually got him wasn't withdrawl, it wasn't liver disease or anything like that it was esophageal cancer. Your esophagus isn't as strong as people assume it might be and it's surprisingly prone to cancer.
>>
>>26854720
I would advocate that anyone drinking a few beers a day should take multivitamins and especially vitamin d because alcohol has a kind of leeching effect on the human body, and once you're d12 levels get too low you're at risk for all sorts of fucked up stuff, you go mentally insane and that's just for starters
>>
I love how there's a different name for alcohol addiction, alcoholism, instead of just calling it a plain old drug addiction, which it is.

It's also funny how alcoholics think that they're any better than other drug addicts. Including cocaine, methamphetamines and opiate addicts.

Alcohol addiction is one of the worst addictions to battle.

Alcohol is a GABA agonist. GABA A/B is very important for proper body function. Google it, I'm not about to explain it.

When GABA down regulation happens, you need more alcohol to fill the now more receptor sites in order to achieve the same effect. Abrupt cessation causes violent up regulation. This is what causes seizures and strokes for alcoholics.

Alcohol puts tremendous stress on your liver/kidneys. GABA agonist have been shown to cause things like dementia. Alcohol withdrawals are just as bad as opiate withdrawals. The only difference is that with an opiate withdrawal you feel like you're going to die, and you potentially could if you had underlying health issues. But with an alcohol withdrawal you can actually die even if you're otherwise healthy.

Picture how hard it is to quit something that you can just buy at a grocery store.
