My old high shool seemed like it was built to discourage shooters because it had zero strategic points aside from a three story balcony, but you would never want to hold out there.
When I changed schools, I went to one that was built in like ... 1905? And all the places you could barricade, take cover, funnel the kids through a way and mow them down, halls, tinted windows, underground janitorial tunnels.

I thought about this in terms of my school. To be clear I graduated, and don't plan on killing anyone.
I would've waited for the music signalling the start of the day, planting explosives near the primary staircases and then waiting near one of the them. Blow up the bombs right when the stairways turn into thick masses of humans, then enter the hallway and fire shots into the mass. If the bombs failed to explode, I'd still be able to fire into a literal wall of people. Missing would've been practically impossible in the beginning.

1. gather enough money/resources in the prior months to fund plans
2.the day before booby trap locker with explosives triggered by locker door opening
3.come to school in parking lot on time in morning so not to draw attention for showing up late. also to recon school in previous hours to lunch to ensure knowledge of police officer/officers location. in own private vehicle carrying the stuff needed for that day
4.first bring gym bag full of guns/ammo/gear and hide under stairs or better spot
5. walk back to car to grab propane tank filled with flash powder with nails taped to side with a long in length quick burning fuse inserted half in tank half out with the outside end connected to a remote detonated firework igniter all disguised as some sort of school project or janitors trashcan.
6. move tank into lunchroom where the lunch lines get crowded very shortly before lunchtime.
7. move back to gym bag/backpack take it to bathrooms big disabled stall and gear up and cover everything up with big over coat or some other clothing
8. leave bathroom and wait by the place where the school police officer usually is but out of sight at this time 2-3 minutes before lunch room is at most packed
9. 30 seconds before desired lunch room blast rush to officer and take out with concealed fire arm. immediately after use remote to detonate lunch room
10. run to lunch room as fast as possible to finish survivors
11. once lunch room is empty of life methodically clear every room to the best of ability hitting those playing dead and moving on as fast as possible
12. continue step 11 until finished or until you realized police are outside. then either shoot it out or find a nice place in the school and take a short break of reflection before suicide.
tips: avoid socializing or causing friends to hang out with you or give attention to you as they will show you down, question you, draw more attention to you.
