Part of growing up is caring less about your birthday
If they forget this year they're gonna remember it anytime until it's your next birthday. That way they will probably make sure not to forget it next year. If you warn them they will not give it any importance and they will forget again next year. Trust me I'm a birthday-o-logist.

Two years ago I got my sister a kindle for her birthday and she forgot my birthday. Last year she asked for $50 and I gave it to her, she remembered my birthday but gave me nothing.
