The Ransomware in question would use Email attachments sent to a user in an Email that seemed legit. The user would download the Attachment, and unzip whatever file came with the attachment. The file would hide it's true extension, but would end up being a .exe extension.
This is how the malicious payload would reach the victim. Without a backup, the files encrypted by the Randomware would not be possible to decrypt back to their original content.

No. Cryptolocker actually encrypts the files. You might kill off the infection but you can't get back whatever was already encrypted without paying or having a backup.
