I have no social life but I've been very successful in school and have real skills (masters in electrical engineering). And I was bona fide autistic before I ever even used the internet or porn, I'd just read nonfiction books and nature guides. My only friends as a kid were even more dysfunctional than me and I'm the only semi-"successful" one of the bunch while the rest are pure NEETS or drug addicts.
The thing that scares me most is that all tech professions though considered "skilled" really amount to not much more than grinding video games. I spend my work coding and moving colored squares around to form integrated circuits in CAD programs.
I did learn skills, but in the end, they're not "real" skills that would help if the whole system comes crashing down.

This. Once we accept how pointless it is to waste time grinding away at a video game, we can take it a step farther and acknowledge that grinding away at anything is pointless.
What are we working towards? Where are you going to be at the end of your years, working away at your job?
If you play video game X for hours and hours just so you can get reward Y, how is that different than working at job X for reward Y?
You can't play video games for the end result, you have to find enjoyment in the journey. The same applies to your career. If you go to a job you dislike just because you will get Y amount of money, but are miserable the entire time... that is no different than grinding in a game.
You need to find a job you enjoy, above all else. A job you are happy to do, despite how much money you get in the end.

But now I'm in grad school and I've come to the realization that electronics literally destroyed society and the computer should never have been invented.
