Apple has given over 80 phones to the authorities for past crimes, most of which involve drug dealing. Once something is involved in a crime and confiscated, by law it then becomes property of the government, and therefore is there their own right to demand access to the information thereof.
Apple is only taking a stand for this because the phone was involved with radical Islam. God forbid the authorities find anything that paints Islam in a negative light.
