Any other robots writers here? I know I enjoy writing in my down time. It fills the void in my NEET life.

>your current project(s)
>how much you write on a daily basis
>are you going for publication?
>have you ever shared your writing before?

I'm currently writing a scifi story set on a waypoint space station in between the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies. Its coming along nicely.
>>
>your current project(s)
I'm currently writing the fifth instalment of my six-part memoir.

>how much you write on a daily basis
I dedicated at least eight hours each for writing and revision

>are you going for publication?
Of course. The traditional kind.

>have you ever shared your writing before?
No and I won't until my publication is guaranteed and my work protected by copyright.
>>
>your current project(s)
I'm writing poems about my life. I know it sounds cliche, but it makes me feel better about myself

>how much you write on a daily basis
At least 20 pages, with periodical breaks to browse the internet.

>are you going for publication?
Not really. Its just a passive hobby, nothing more.

>have you ever shared your writing before?
No because I don't want anyone stealing my stuff and claiming they wrote it.
>>
>>26605492
Yeah, I've picked up writing as a hobby a couple of weeks ago and have been experimenting with stories and stuff

>your current project(s)
not to sound pretentious i'm writing a story that is, on the surface looks like its about warfare and battle, but really its a book about how people escape from boredom as well as a commentary on the deceptive appearances of nature

maybe this is too ambitious for me to start out with but i dont know, we'll see

>how much you write on a daily basis
500 words a day approx.

>are you going for publication?
nah. doubt i'd get published

>have you ever shared your writing before?
a couple of times, general consensus is that it's shit

i really like writing though, it honestly helps me relax and focus.

Not sure

Nope

I've been trying to write, but when I try to think of something, it's like my mind just blanks and I can't think of anything. Sometimes it feels like there's something there but it's surrounded by a coat of teflon or something. It's depressing the shit out of me. I have zero creative ability.
>>
Anyone have any tips for a complete beginner to get into writing?

I'd like to write down a few of my short stories. Though it's likely they can only be appreciated by my autistic mind. We'll see though.
>>
>>26605727
Have you tried getting drunk or taking meds beforehand? Sometimes anxiety can feed into writers block. If you curb that a little the words might flow with more clarity.
>>
>>26605752
Read and write. That's it. Reading literary classics will expose you to different styles and expand your vocabulary, and writing is a trial-and-error game. The more you write, the better you will become at it. If you feel lost, mimic the style of a book you enjoy. You improve no matter what you do.
>>
>your current project(s)
A few short stories, rewriting a novel, and also adapting the novel to a screenplay if possible
>how much you write on a daily basis
Lately, I've been reading a fuck ton of novels instead. I have writers block, anyone know the cure?
>are you going for publication?
yes
>have you ever shared your writing before?

Who /fanfiction/ here?

I'm not really a writer but I'm writing a novel about a dude who dies and wakes up like nothing happened.
Not sure if it's a novel I don't really have a format. I just write chapters on a notepad. But it's closest to a novel than anything in my knowledge.

Forgive me if I sound rude, but isn't a memoir something that is written to chronicle the exciting and interesting moments of one's life? As you are posting on /r9k/ I can only assume your memoir consists of repeat chapters on how you get up day, play video games, watch anime, fap and shitpost on 4chan.

>how much I write

>>
>>26605492

>Current project
Just about done with the first draft of the novel that I plan to send to publishers/agents. Lots and lots of editing and rewriting after this draft is done though.

>How much daily
Depends. Good days I can produce 5,000 - 7,000 words if I'm on a roll. Bad days I can't even get to 1k. I don't follow the Stephen King bullshit of always getting out at least a certain amount every day - feels like forcing the issue and producing bad writing.

>Going for pub?
See above; yes. Been creative writing for ten+ years now and written a number of novels in that time.

>Shared?
Yup. I post novels and short stories online. Feedback is good, although IMO online feedback is more positive on average than should be expected. I'm more critical than they are on my shit.

Writing a novel set in the interwar period during the Depression exploring three characters and the separate paths through hardship that eventually cross. Trying to tackle modern themes on immigration and economic opportunity on a personal scale and the effects of such on relationships and emotional stability.
>>
I wouldn't call myself a writer, I try to write short stories for a good start. The current one is about an old bum who wants to change his life by travelling and fails miserably. I'm done with the first part, but there's a problem. Who do I give my "art" to to criticize? Family is no good, because they would be too nice to me, same with the only 3 friends I have. Giving it to complete strangers is retarded. So who? The fact that I probably won't give it to anyone because I'm too much of a pussy is another story
English is not my primary language, so posting my work here is not an option. Also 4chan thinks my post is a spam for some reason.
>>
>>26608373

Underrated advice. Playing out character interactions as if you're watching them live helps immerse you in the scene; because of that, shitty dialogue sticks out a bit more than if you just plow through speaking parts on the page. Same goes for scenery descriptions, I've found.
>>
>your current project(s)
want to work in film. don't have the people skills to be a director. too ugly to be an actor. so I am trying to into writing.

Can someone tell me if my current project sounds too edgy?
Unbeknownst to most humans, in the 1950s, God was usurped from his throne in heaven.
Contrary to what one would think, quality of life for humans quickly increased under the watch of their new deity. Now its the nebulous future, and for ~100 years, no one had since heard the voice of God, but now, he is again talking to humans.

So that's basically the start of it. The rest of the story is just about what lead up to it and what came after it. Where this deity came from and what happened with God. Few random twists in there that aren't terribly surprising.
>>
I rarely ever write, because if it isn't perfect, I get too upset, and I have no real "reason" to write, so I have no motivation.

I wish I had some kind of purpose or just something to express so I could write.

Anyone else find fiction boring?
Non-fiction is almost always better.
>>
>>26608763
>and I have no real "reason" to write

There isn't a reason for anything. Just open up Word, take a second to collect your thoughts, and let your imagination flow onto the page. If nothing else, it helps to pass the time. And to make sense of the thoughts pinging around in your mind.
>>
>>26608752
That could work out nicely.
There's been films that have played with that idea somewhat, but not to the extent you're going with.

I'm interested. I'd have to see more to get a better idea though.

>>26608507
>set in interwar period during the depression and tackling modern issues like immigration and economic opportunity on a personal scale and emotional stability.

Not gonna lie, that sounds neat as fuck.
>>
>>26608815
Then it's just a jumbled mess of random thoughts that aren't fleshed out and don't flow or make any sense. It would make me feel crazy or stupid.
>>
>>26608683
Post it on /lit/ or here, but beware of meme users, only take the constructive criticisms. Also if you go to school, sign up to a creative workshop. Yeah yeah I know the maymay "hum you don't go to school to learn how to write, dummy dum dum!" Well just go there to make valuable friends and extra credits.

I understand why you wouldn't share it with your current friends, because they might be profound plebs or because they don't know you as "that guy who writes" so it might seem awkward. Then I strongly suggest workshops.

Just won my Colleges writing contest lads!!! First place among hundreds of submissions!!

I'd share here but since I won it's now up for publication and publishing online would get me disqualified

I usually write 1000 words a day just by habit and interest.

Anyway I'm just really really happy. I got $500 dollars from the contest too, and will get a spot in uni history

>Want to split up personal experiences and project them subtly on a number of characters
>Also want to have some of these individual characters become worse off by failing to recognize their issues, resort to something drastic, and then have them sit through an existential crisis

As far as a premise for a self-help book, how awful is this idea?
I'm not trying to make this babby's first existential crisis, but I think it's an interesting subject to touch on.

>>
anyone else re-read what they wrote and feel embarrassed by it?

I tried writing something but I read it back and it made me cringe
>>
>>26609052

It's not bad for a start, but you'll need to hone the focus of the story. The concept of characters ignoring/missing their flaws, failing because of them, and learning to grow because of said existential crises - or failing there - involves the reader proportionally with how much said reader cares for the characters and their paths. There's a foundation to work with; you just have to make the idea yours and put your touch on it. Make a crisis contextual.

Thanks for this advice.
It means a lot.
However, I still have to work on making likable characters. I've come up with personalities, traits, and flaws for each, but I end up hating every single one of them for various reasons.

I'm just too fond of the idea of them all being assholes with some personality quirks, because in my mind that makes it more realistic.

Thanks again though.

Don't make them like that, they have to give birth to themselves. Picture in your head a conflict. Niw what kind of MC would it take to fix that problem? Does the problem need fixing? Does the MC absolutely needs a complete details description?

Try to find the proper media to express your idea. Teather, poetry, prose, etc. Never attempt to write a novel right on. If it's long enough to make a novel, then that's great.
>>

He has a few online friends he interacts with, so that provides for dialogue and developing relationships. Besides that, its mostly his ongoing battle against his inner demons that keep him down in life. The story would probably be boring if someone other than me ever read it, its not my primary project.
>>
>>26609412

This actually has more potential than you realize.

The key, I think, will be to make his personal struggle one that readers want him to overcome. There's ways you could make this a classic "man vs. himself" battle for a modern, technology-obsessed culture that would end up really relevant in light of how we're embracing social trends.

The answer to all your questions is either no or not really.

I guess I should try rephrasing what I meant.

I've made the characters, and I've had it so they are initially assholes, submissive, cowardly, or straight up unlikable. However, they each come across their own set of conflicts, and try (somewhat unsuccessfully) to help each other out.

And I know that sounds like an awful fucking premise for a story, but there's enough humor and context to keep things a little interesting, without taking away from the overall tone.

I don't know if it counts but I am a recovering fatty. I mostly eat home made soups using veggies these days to stay in shape.

Whenever I get tempted to eat poorly I start writing a short sexual story in which I am an immersion blender (a blender used for dipping into a blending soups) and that I am being dipped into some healthy vegetable soup. This turns me on and makes me really want vegetable based soup.

I'll post a story from yesterday, pic related is an immersion blender.

Faggots here's what I want you all to do: next time you write something, sit down and say: I will write a short story between 5-7 pages, and I will write this story to completion.

Quit trying to write sprawling novels about blowing a kneecap off the world and "exposing" the human struggle of >no gf

Write me a short story. And when it's all done, give yourself a day to collect your thoughts. After that day, sit down and edit your works.

DO NOT EDIT WHILE WRITING, YOU ARE IN A SPECIAL FRAME OF MIND WHILE WRITING, DON'T BREAK IT

>People were frozen, but 300 years ago the liquid used to freeze them depleted and they lack the natural resources to freeze again, so must live in a colony that can sustain life pretty much indefinitely.
>Ship holds tens of thousands. It is cylindrical in shape. Simulates gravity by centripetal force.
>Ship has 100's of metres of rock as shielding from cosmic rays
>Workers work on the engines and life support (farming) near the core (maximum protection from cosmic rays), where gravity is weakest. They are short and weak, but have strong genetics with a varied gene pool. Make up ~90% of the ship
>Ones on the outer layers of the ship are academics and other non essential jobs. They are stronger due to stronger gravity, but cancer and genetic mutation is very common due to cosmic rays and small gene pool.

Plot
>They detect a volcanic rouge planet that they could live on. It is on it's own and doesn't orbit a star
>Will intercept (if they choose to) a year from now
>Workers vote to go to planet because it is better than what they have now
>Outer layer people vote to carry on so that future the human race has a better chance to survive into the far future (they don't know whether humans are still alive elsewhere in the universe since they are so isolated)
>Even though majority vote to go to planet, academics ignore vote and choose to carry on for better planet
>Workers rebel and war breaks out

Not sure how it would end

Has an overbearing theme of whether the needs of the human race as a whole supersede the needs of humans that are alive today. (Do the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?)
It would also be a comparison of a 'civilised' group at war with an 'uncivilised' group

I just do non-fic, but if I'm welcome too:

>your current project(s)
Revising my thesis into something less specialized that would be good for an article in a genre studies journal, working on two book reviews for upcoming books and just started getting into the research for a paper I'm presenting about next week.
>how much you write on a daily basis
Usually at least 500 words, even if it's junk. I wrote 700 words for a departmental newsletter article this morning and sent it off.
>are you going for publication?
Hoping for publication beyond newsletters and blogs/online literary journals. But even those are cool at this point. I just want to get things done and not sit idle, getting older.
>have you ever shared your writing before?
Not to individuals, but most of my social media accounts promote stuff I've done/am doing. I try to avoid personal posts.

Sounds like an Arthur C Clarke book

I'd read that

I write poems once in a while. I wish I could write every day, but I write in a really flamboyant style, it drains me creatively really fast. I've been meaning to go to the Chicago Young Author's events and read some of it but I haven't had the time. After years of angsty and mediocre stuff, I can finally reread stuff I've written months ago that I'm actually proud of.

I have ideas and a timeline for a book but I'm stuck on where to start the story. I also wanted to experiment with the prose...but I think I'm getting over my head.

I'll give this a shot, anon, thanks.

I'm making a book based of death grips discography

>your current project(s)

A pandering, heavy-duty wish-fullfillment paranormal romance novel.

On the backburner is an epic fantasy adventure novel that will actually be good.

>how much you write on a daily basis

30 minutes a day, I should be able to get more going soon. It's hard to find motivation to do anything I don't have to do to not be homeless really.

>are you going for publication?

I'm going to self-publish on Amazon with a pen name. And then I will write another novel and publish that too. Then maybe one more or maybe I will switch to novellas. I want to make enough money self-publishing that I can quit my boring job. Writing pulp is kinda fun. I get to exercise my writing muscles by writing trash that's a bit better than it needs to be.

>have you ever shared your writing before?

Yes, the stuff I write that I try to actually make good. My policy though is to never share anything I'm working on. A big part of what makes me write is wanting to tell my story, and talking about it before it's done saps my motivation. Like I already got the reward for the task so I don't need to do it anymore.
