>mfw finally got a job
>mfw 30K a year

That's almost 100 dollars a day, in case your NEET brain is too uneducated to do the math. If the rent for my apartment is 500 per month, and I spend 10 dollars per meal 3 times a day (no picking from the value menu, I'm getting full combos and a little extra for desert), then that leaves me with almost 2400 per month for me to spend on anything I want. Anime, vidya, the possibilities are endless. With this hard earned cash, I can make my free time even comphier with the pleasures money can buy. I'm practically set for life.

Good luck living in that hostel/shitty city.

What if you subtract stuff like bills and car payments? I doubt you can get an apartment for 500 dollars a month and not have to drive to work

how long is the walk? I always assumed that anywhere within walking distance of a job in a city would be, like, 1000+ a month at LEAST

Like, in Manhattan basically the smallest possible apartment is $990 a month, and if you go to queens or brooklyn so you can still take the subway it's STILL a large amount for anything bigger than a closet
>>
I really don't get your math. You earn 2500 a month (30 k a year) and yet you say you spend 30 dollars a day on food (that's 900 a month) plus 500 for rent. How the fuck you have 2400 left?
>>
>>26575931
One dollar is worth one quarter of a big mac
>>
>>26575946

It's about 40-50 minutes of a walk, but that's like, the length of an album so I can just listen to my music while enjoying the scenery.
>>
>>26575951
Also, who the fuck spends 900 a month on food
The average is 300 a month

>>
>>26575823
So I'm sure this is bait, but your math is fucked. 30K/yr comes out to 2500/month before taxes and insurance and shit. You're realistically looking at under 2000/month after all of that, then you've got rent (500, really? If you don't have a roommate you must be living in a shithole) and utilities.
>>
>>26575823
What about taxes?
>>
>>26575823
I make 40k, but I also get to work from home and it's super low stress. I can actually play turn-based video games while working without any loss of productivity. Can't really watch or read anything until after work though.

If I lived in a cheap rental I would be making extraordinary bank.
>>
>>26575931
5-7 dollars buys you a fast food meal
20 dollars can buy you 1-2 clothing items
500+ pays for rent
30-80 buys a full tank of gas depending on where you live
50-100 buys groceries for a week
>>
>>26576046
What do you do from home? Is it some kinda art thing?
>>

Nobody knows. American currency is based on burgers. OP is using long forgotten currency.
>>
>>26576082
Americans don't actually pay for their own insurance, generally
Employers usually pay for it

Also, median household income is less than twice that, so with someone else earning the same wage they'd actually be in the upper half of earners
>>
>>26575823
OP, can you tell me what type of job you got? I'm curious. Waiting for your reply

Yeah, kind of. You could also say that it comes out of your paycheck in european countries, too, just through taxes.

Honestly, it's kind of a stupid system we have here, and the supposed benefits of "privatization" haven't really helped because it leads to the healthcare industry being really good at selling stuff instead of being really good at making people better for cheap like it arguably should be

I make 24K a year as a mall security guard. 90% of my job is sitting in the security room til someone tries shoplifting. then we stand by the shoplifter til the cops come and go back to the security room. Pretty sure the only exciting thing to happen in the 10 months I've worked there was a shoplifter tried running and Roy the huge guard tackled his ass to the ground. Pretty sure the only reason I got the job too was because of the equal employment thingy and needing at least one girl in the workplace.

>renters insurance
30$/month if you have GOOD credit history

>assuming you have a car
500-1000$ for a shitty liability insurance for a shitty car. that's a pretty conservative number but it also depends on state

80-100$ taken of every check if paid bi-weekly and you get your insurance through employment

That $30k figure is most likely a gross one, rather than post taxes.

Also, prepare to pay taxes at the end of the year.

Pretty good, bros. I pay the cable and water bill, though, which is about $2400 a year. I also pay for insurance, gas and maintenance on my car, which is about $3000 a year. Also pay for health and dental insurance, which is about another $1500 a year. But still have a shit ton left over after that.

I'm the guy that made the $300/month claim. I was being super conservative as well.

Back when it was just me and my wife, we'd spend 300-400$ per week on food. We'd shop at all fancy stores and buy whatever we thought looked tasty. Mind you, none of us are 400lb whales. My wife looked like a skeleton before having our kid. Now she looks just right, imo. Though, my grandma still tells her to eat a sandwich whenever she sees her.

It's three people in our household nowadays, one of them is a toddler. We spend 150-250/month on food. My wife is really savvy when it comes to shopping. She shops at Mexican and Chinese stores on top of the popular in this state hipster "healthy" markets.

I'm sure you could survive on 50$ a week if you're autistic and your special strength is eating Ramen Noodles.
>>
>>26579636
Lived on part-time minimum wage for a year, could feed myself for ~$100/mo if I needed to.

Lots of pasta (you'll be /noenergy/ tho), practically no meat, only the 50c-70c canned goods, etc. I wasn't really legit poor, I just liked saving money. Took a few transcon trips, bought a few luxury items (shitty dirtbike, mediocre computer, etc), I just felt like there were more important things to spend 10 bucks on than a piece of chicken.
