Symbol drawing, look it up. It's a beginner's trap, basically you're not actually drawing what you see but instead your brain is making you draw the idea of what you're drawing *should* look like.
Honestly though humans are complex as shit (the hand requires a fuckton of studying itself to get right, I still regularly mess up on it), you should try looking at simpler, more contrasted things - try putting basic shaped objects (like say a pencil eraser) under a shallow-angled desk lamp and see how their shadows work and whatnot and remember to actually draw what you see. The more you draw, try moving onto more complex shapes, since after all everything's just a bunch of shapes. Good luck and godspeed anon <3

i dont use my sketches as a template i just scan them in to post and have them high res.
when it comes to digital i start from scratch, i used a image of a town for the inside of the skull, but i plan to paint over it, its just to keep it textured for now.
you'll find that when you scan in an image you'll see all the distortion that you made while drawing it. and you'll want to start over so i recommend just grinding out the base work/composition and rendering from a digital canvas to start
