There's nothing wrong with loving your country (if for the right reasons). It's not as if the government's attributes are aspects of everyone's patriotism, given it's not uncommon to detest them.
People have the need to feel proud of where they come from, to identify with something beyond their own achievements, and to anchor their identities beyond the ego.
