My great grandfather left me a quarter million in a trust I can't access until I turn 25

My grandfather is still alive but will probably leave me 3+ million unless his business goes horribly wrong towards the end.

Working part time keeps my mind off the robot feelings and gives me a sense of purpose, the NEET life was comfy for a while but it did a serious number on my mental health.

24/M/US, I have multiple bank accounts, but it's summed up something like:

15k 401k
5k regular investments
10k savings account A/emergency fund
17k checking account A
2k checking account B
500 savings account B
-13k autoloan

So that puts me in the realm of 30k liquid net worth. Moved away from family b/c they live in bumfuck nowhere, so I fully support myself (rent, utilities, etc). Sucks that it takes so long to save anything, even with investing.

in europe were i come from , they look at bank account before they accept to do something, bc they deny alot of shit and tell you to eat the money first.

i and others around me always take out everything and leave enough to pay for rent etc ...

am looking into stocks , want to do something with that in near future.
>>
>>26461127
I wouldn't mess around with the stock market, unless you know how it's played.

Shit is volatile right now, here in the states the government keeps inflating the market, china is pulling out and cashing in on IOUs. Plus they played with their money until it all went bust.

I'm starting to think investing in small businesses or something when trump is president. Cars and other things will be more expensive but americans will have jobs again.
>>
>>26460661
>-13k autoloan
Why the fuck didn't you buy a used car you idiot? I bought a 2002 Honda SUV three years ago for about 7,000. It's not pretty but it gets me from point A to point B and I never have to worry about paying off something that depreciates the moment you drive it off the lot.
>>
>>26461078
OP here. I've been letting it sit but only because I plan on moving out very soon and that will require furniture, security deposit, other fun shit, etc so I plan on spending at least 3k. After all that's settled then I will think of investing with what's left over.

>>
>>26461573

>>
>>26461573

Or you could not be a moron and buy a car that doesn't depreciate that fast. I had a Scion XB and it barely depreciated at all - 75% of it's original value after SEVEN YEARS. Same with my FJ Cruiser.
>>
>>26461724
Are you a salesman of some kind? I notice people tend to really care about driving a high-end car when they are overly concerned with how others perceive then.
>>
$6,597.20

Only $259 in my checkings though. I will be double that in 3 months though. Also $601 income tax soon.
>>
For those who don't want to be a poorfag AND don't want to be an idiot, check articles like this:

>>
>>26461755
It is you who is the moron who doesn't understand how cars work. Sure there are anomalies and if you take really good care of your car and with no accidents, spills, smoking, etc, then yeah some idiot will buy your car at or near the value you paid for it a decade ago. Cars are a terrible investment. The value of your Scion went down the shitter them moment you signed the paperwork.

>>
>>26461806

Sure thing, fellow Jalopnik friend. Except cars are providing value to you while you are using them, unlike actual "investments". They're not an investment. You just pulled that out of your ass. Even moron financial advisors like Dave Ramsey, and generic ones like Clark Howard realize that leasing is a shit deal, and for *MOST* cars buying used is better (I drive a used car now). But there's exceptions - not "anomalies" - especially within the Toyota brand.
>>

Don't feel like logging into my account, even though I should probably do that because I'm somewhere in the range of $0-$300 and I'm not sure where. I know for sure I got $50 in Bitcoins (gonna buy some drugs) and $100 in cash though. I'm not sure where the $100 cash came from. I vaguely remember having this dream where I found $100 somewhere and I set it on my nightstand, then I woke up and it was actually there. Am I making money in my sleep?

As you can see, I am very financially irresponsible and just kind of go where the wind takes me.

>>
>>26461858
I don't lease, I have a used car too. And cars are an investment. It's an asset that you put X amount of money into and over time it will depreciate, or in some cases, appreciate in value.
>>
>>26461573

It was a used car from 2011. It's <2% interest, so I'm not losing much money on it. Hasn't given me any issues so far and is/was well reviewed for long-term value. I think it was worth the cost if I can use it for another decade or two.
>>
>>26461885

The ONLY reason is because you can "afford" a nicer car than you could with a "normal" down payment and a car note - but people ignore the fact that you never actually own the car - equity of a kind - and get caught up in the meager "benefits" - i.e., what amounts to an extended warranty.

>>
>>26461907

Ok, let's put semantics aside - nobody (besides antique aficionados) is buying cars and expecting them to appreciate in value. They expect to use them, and hope that they don't lose excessive value over time, unless they value their appreciation of the car (i.e., old shitty Jags) more than depreciation. I'm calling an investment anything that you either expect or hope to gain value over time.

Doing something special tomorrow?
Do you have any special person?

I actually wondering because, I could go out tomorrow with girl, who really likes me. Everytime she sees me, she is really happy but she doestn't like video games and anime.

I could also tell another girl who actally share my hobbies and talk with me a lot what I feel to her, but she has got a boyfriend who used to bully me at hs. He is total scumbag for her but she didn't leave him

Or maybe I will just stay at home and play vidya
>>

Believe me, she was a cold-hearted machine of a woman. IT project saleswoman. The going joke was that if she needed to increase projected budget by a couple hundred thou, she'd undo the top button of her blouse (she wasn't bad looking). I couldn't do it either, But I was just intimating - it's weird and sad, but they really DO need to project an image of success. I worked with a sales guy who was getting back on his feet after a string of bad luck, and he dumped quite a bit of money into maintaining an old, crappy Mercedes, because he needed to. You can't do that job without at least APPEARING to be successful, or executives won't take you seriously.
>>
>>26461959

The second girl is mentally ill and doesn't look for the qualities you have in a guy, for better or for worse.
>>
>>26461981

That's definitely part of it! I'd say the value of a vehicle you own is the utility you have already derived from it (using it, driving it), and utility you expect to get from it (how much longer you expect to be able to drive it), plus it's current market value.

You get a maintenance loan to cover those costs but they fucked me around this year and so I'm literally days away from being evicted. They only deal in phone calls and I can't afford a phone either, so I'm having some difficulty setting the loans straight.

>>

i don't really get what your point is

if i don't have money i don't have money

i had about 600 in savings at the start of this school year (september) but 400 in rent a month gets eaten into quickly and where i'm working pays me like 200 a month and they won't give me more hours

factor in food and electricity and you're in shit town

i'm one of those scammed poor people who thought university would help me but woops

I'm not sure if only rich robots post in this type of thread or if robots in general are better with their money or what but I'm feeling extra poor today, thanks for reminding me I'm a complete burnout.

I'm in the same boat. 25 still live at home. Rent's taken care of, food's taken care of, mom lets me use her monthly train ticket whenever she is traveling for business so transportation to my job is covered a lot of the time. My only expense is my car. I love watching my wealth grow exponentially every week, but I can't live this way forever. Been looking for an apartment, filled out an application for a place that's in a fairly rough neighborhood, but it's $700 a month with all utilities included. Plus I won't have to tell chicks I live with my parents anymore which is a huge plus. Other than actually having to spend my nest egg, I think this is the best option.

$245.59

I'm 24 years old. If I didn't fuck up and waste all my money on alcohol I'd have a good 20k saved up.
>>
>>26465920
Yeah, basically the same boat man. The problem is I don't really live in a place that's really social for a 24 year old like myself. I really want to 'start living' and just waste away seeing the days go by. Where would I move to? Anywhere but here...

a lot of robots are from well to do families or at least middle class ones that could put some aside for them, hence the massively entitled attitudes around here.

don't get tricked by the big figures, even the ones that made the majority of it probably had a nice leg up

I'm fairly lucky I live close to a college that's been painstakingly trying to revitalize the "night life" in my neighborhood (because we live fairly close to a crime-infested shithole), so I think I'll be okay. But my suggestion to you would be online dating. I have not had the best luck with it but it's good to get out there and try to meet people especially if you're an introvert like myself. Also
>tfw you're 25 and the only people you hang out with in your neighborhood are 21 and younger
Feels very bad sometimes.

Tried online dating. 0 hits except for people Im not interested in. This girl I know moved to Atlanta and her life now seems amazing. I am jealous of a lot of what she has now and I really want that feeling and ride the same wave

I want to mimic that success but I am very aware there would be a complete difference for a guy in a new town than a girl

>about $2,000 in bank account
>going to Vegas this week by myself for the hell of it and because none of my (very few) friends could take days off during the week and I mostly work weekends
>planning on losing about 500 bucks

If I were more frugal and didn't waste so much money on weed/alcohol I could probably have a good amount saved up but I'm not making much money anyway and need to find a new job

Yeah I feel you; I very rarely get replies and I must send out 9 or 10 messages a day when I am feeling motivated. I've had a profile for 5 months and have only met three girls in real life, only one of which ended in sex, and she was a nice girl but chubby and a little dumb. You just gotta keep trying and don't sweat the rejection. It's like trying to find a new job: Just send out dozens and dozens of applications a week and someone is bound to respond by virtue of mathematics. Are you from the south?

We, United Staticans, have to pay for school, housing, food, and utilities. That's nearly double what you have to pay.

Maybe your taxes are super crazy high and that is the compensation.

I, however, live at home with my parents, work full time, pay for tech school (like 1/5th of the price of uni) and then at the end of the year I can claim all the money I invested in myself on my taxes.

People who go for loans (in the states) are dumb, the government will pay for your schooling when you file for a tax return.

Only restraint is that you have to claim independent on your taxes.

Again, I have only done this while in tech school. I'm sure Uni is the same, maybe you don't get as much back.

Move to a legal state and grow weed for a dealer, legally. You can make big monies and taking care of flowers isn't hard. I bet you could claim up to and over 40% of what you spend on growing equipment in taxes.
>>
>>26466316
yeah but we pay for the schooling after the fact, if we paid it upfront we'd have to get loans upfront for that too, i don't get your point at all, that's a lovely story about your correct decisions though
>>

Yep. From the south. Went to an in-state college and working instate too. Never really been else in the US and afraid to move. I have never traveled in my life because of how poor I have been until now. I would want to move to where my BEST friends are which is:
San francisco CA
Los Angeles CA
Atlanta GA

San Fran because Im tech and feel like itd be a good fit with my friend who works there.

LA because my best friend is there. Id work around that.

Atltanta because the girl who went through the exact same shit as me is there and I would want that. Im just so tired of coming home and sitting on my computer now...

26. Canada. In college. Have been trying to find a part-time job to no avail. I think it has to do with the fact that it's the top 5 worst cities for unemployment in Canada. I'm hungry, but $1 Tofu at Walmart's been treating me well! My goal is to help people like myself when I graduate. I'm much happier with hope than pity.

Well it's not like you're magically gonna get a social life if you move out. Hell, I've heard you're gonna be doing that most weekends out of necessity to avoid spending too much cash. Best of luck to you though man!
>>
>>26466375
>yeah but we pay for the schooling after the fact

I was saying it's harder on the US student to pay all the bills, some loans are structured like yours are though (paying after school)

My story isn't done and it took me a long time (and a lot of money) to figure this out. Thank you though :)

>>26466445
From what I've been told by people in the industry, you go to pot shops or have a friend in the biz so you'd have to network (r9k yikes) My friends made friends in cannabis cups and oil competitions and the like. That being said you can grow x amount of plants just for being a resident, if you get a grow card (a dealer shop has to say you're growing for them) from the government you can grow crazy amounts of weed. Like pounds of it.

The dealers are always looking for more bodies to grow depending on the demand in the area.
