Performing an action during your turn is not uncommon for RPGs either, Shadow Hearts in fact has a very similar mechanic to the bullseye system in undertale, but does it much better and does not solely rely on that.
And yes, ancient evils and destroying humanity is quite a boring subject especially when it offers nothing new. Not even any surprising twists or engaging plotlines.
