Most classes we are required to bring the texts to class every wee, but copies are fine.

Some professors/lecturers want us to bring the texts to the seminars, otherwise we can't work with them. Seeing as active participation is part of most of the classes, I can see their logic behind this.

Here is a few alternatives:
>Don't buy them, just always go to the lectures and take notes
While the book should add extra information to the lecture, often it's not necessary. It depends on the subject though. If nothing else, you could say that e.g. Math isn't so important to buy the books for extra information, while this other thing , let's say programming in Java is important to you so you do want the extra info.
