The guy had crippling disabilities which essentially ruined his normal social development growing up. He was hurting for friends but couldn't make or keep any. He was fucked from day one.
Life isn't fair, some people are born with crippling disabilities and some people get shot at school yet empathy is only given for the victims of shootings or for the accepted disabilities to feel sorry for.

Cho had an absolutely massive ego but he seemed to reserve it in alter egos. Cho tried to express himself through a variety of characters in his writings and then later in his real life performances, taking on the character of 'question mark' to his acquaintances.
His final performance was as Ishmael Ax, the kid who grew up in harsh conditions and was bullied all his life, the anti-hero badass who was going to bring retribution to those who wronged him and start the revolution of violence. A real movie character.
